Church prepares for Children's Day services at local church

Westward departure ends in Richwood native’s death
Francis S. McMahon formerly of Richwood died Tuesday night at his Walla Walla Washington home after a period of ill health. He served in Ohio National Guard Company G and was known as Cap McMahon. His brother Fred McMahon was killed in a Denver mine explosion and his mother lives with Mrs. Riley Hunt in Indianapolis. McMahon left Richwood long ago and worked for Waddhans and Kerr Brothers in Portland before directing a wholesale branch in Walla Walla.

Funeral Services Held for Geo W Cline Pastor
Funeral services for Geo W Cline pastor of the Church of Christ were held last Thursday at his north Franklin street home. The body then moved to Prospect and was shipped to McComb Ohio where parishioners joined to bury him. Richwood lodge and I O O F members attended the service with ministers from Richwood taking part. Relatives from Dayton Akron Loraine Polk and Lexington attended.

Auto Party Arrested After Speeding Through Village
Marshal Sloop received a tip from Mayor Reed of Green Camp and stopped a party of autoists in Richwood. Names listed include Common Pleas Judge Charles M. Wilkins and several Warren Ohio residents. They posted bond and proceeded to Indianapolis for Decoration Day races. Village officials claim speeds over eight miles per hour violated the ordinance. The matter settled Monday after their return. George Kirby and Joe Ridgeway faced disorderly conduct charges at the Villa Hotel and pleaded guilty with a $2 fine plus costs.

Prison yard finds buried 1856 counterfeit coins
Prisoners digging in an Ohio penitentiary yard unearthed a mint or storage bank used by long ago counterfeiters. A heavy rock uncovered about ten counterfeit coins totaling roughly $10 dated 1856, made from molds of ten cent pieces and quarter dollars, with corroded metal fragments nearby.

Schools Close for Summer Renovations Begin
The local public schools closed for summer vacation with foreign teachers returning home. Miss Ruth Romaine of Columbus, Miss Blanche David of Raymond, and Mr. G. E. City council adjourns with two absences on key ordinances
Few topics reached the council during the regular session Monday night. The body planned to pass the cleaning and sprinkling street and sidewalk assessing ordinances, but two members were absent. A three fourths majority is needed to pass. Adjournment was set for Tuesday June 9.
May Boxwell Patterson exam yields seventy eight of one twenty two
The May examination results show 78 successful applicants from 122. April had 28 passers from 182. The county commencement is set for June 20 at 10 a.m. in the Marysville courthouse with a speaker and music. A list of May laureates follows.

Italian murderer Catano linked to Cincinnati foundry work
Attorney R L Cameron of Marysville reports Giovanni Catano the Italian killer of Edward L Thompson at the tile mill four weeks ago worked seven years at United States Steel and Pipe Foundry near Cincinnati. Catano left there late winter and was noted as an excellent yet peculiar worker who drew pay multiple times weekly. The Italian consul plans to visit Marysville soon to discuss Catano.

Langley Aeroplane Demonstrates Water Launch Capabilities
Langley’s famous old aeroplane, powered and fitted with pontoon attachments, successfully carried 300 pounds beyond original calculations and flew from Hammondsport New York. Observers included Smithsonian officials Dr. Wolcott and Dr. Zahm, with Glen Curtiss piloting as wind hindered a full test. The original Langley machine, now rebuilt with minor repairs, proved capable of rising from water.
