Richwood Schools Staff Completed for Next Year

At a May 17 board meeting Claibourne Richwood outlines staffing for the next year. Grace Shumaker and Sara Neidig join in second and first grades, with Doris Shoup as kindergarten teacher. Custodians and bus drivers are reemployed, E D Kyle remains clerk, and Freda Kyle as secretary. The district expands the school census to ages 1 to 18 to better gauge enrollment.

Coleman Named Ohio Northern University Fund Campaign Chairman

William L. Coleman of Marysville was named Union County chairman for the Ohio Northern University Development Fund campaign. James E. Fusco announced the post with division leaders including Mrs. Ralph Matlack and Judge F. LeRoy Allen. The drive seeks $1.5 million nationally, with $450,000 already contributed by the university groups and a local goal of $250,000.

Progressive Mothers' Club Holds May Meeting at Willis Home

Mary Ellen Willis and Janice Sparks hosted the Progressive Mothers' Club of the C. C. L. at Willis's home on May 24. Devotions were led by Willis. One new member was initiated. The group voted $50 toward the Magnetic Springs Polio Foundation pledge. New officers were elected and installed by Glenna Hartman: Ruth Retterer vice president Mary Ellen Willis recording secretary Grace Shumaker corresponding secretary Virginia Southard treasurer Marie Curry. Plans were made for a June dinner meeting.

Essex Church Officials Named for the Year

Essex church announces officers for the new year with S. S. Supt Wilbur Parish and Glenn H. Blue Jr as assistants. Key posts include Pauline White as Supt of Children’s Dept and Rosemary Colegrove as MYF Pres with a broad slate of trustees stewards and committees listed. A treasurer remains to be elected.

Richwood Flower Show by Garden Club Saturday

The Richwood Garden Club sponsors a flower show this Saturday at the Richwood Lumber Company offices. Bring house plants specimens and artistic arrangements before 9 a m. Judging ends by noon and the show stays open until 9 p m admission is free.

The Union County Union of The King's Daughters invites members to a meeting in Plain City on Friday June 11 at 2 o'clock. A tea and program will be offered and attendees may contact Mrs. Helen Sieg for details.

Richwood High School 75th Commencement Held Friday

The Richwood High School class of 1958 held its seventy fifth commencement Friday evening May 28 at 8 in the high school auditorium. The program included processional, readings, music by the high school band and chorus, class address by Dr. Frank D Slutz of Dayton Ohio, diplomas presented by board members, and benediction by Rev Leonard Mann. Seniors named include Polly Jo Allen and Meredythe Matlack among many others. The class departed Monday for a weeklong trip to Washington DC escorted by teachers and staff.

Richwood Alumni Banquet Draws 268 Attendees

The thirty-eighth Richwood Alumni Association banquet on May 29 drew 268 guests in the U. S. auditorium at 7 30. Senior and 1929 class members attended, with officers nominated for the coming year including President Allgower and VP Mather. The event featured music by Buckeye Four and Don Lister, a guest speaker Prof. Sheldon Robertson, and attendance from alumni across multiple cities.

Richwood Park Opening Draws Big Crowd

The Richwood Lake and Park opening last Monday drew a tremendous crowd sponsored by the Park Board and Lions Club. Ideal weather aided outdoor activities while fewer highway accidents were noted. planners should begin preparations for a large Fourth of July celebration to benefit local youth.

Vacation Bible School at First Methodist Church

A Vacation Bible School will be held at First Methodist Church from June 14 to June 25. Sessions run Mondays to Fridays 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. for children ages three through eighth grade. Four study groups will explore the theme Gods Wonders. Pre registration by calling the church at 2482 is requested if possible.

Memorial Day Services Honor War Dead at Claibourne

Special services by the American Legion Auxiliary V F W and Auxiliary and the Boy and Girl Scouts drew large crowds at Claibourne Cemetery south of Richwood. Attorney Gwynn Saunders of Marysville spoke, with music by the high school band and a new Legion Honor Guard. Graves were decorated at Claibourne then Price and York Cemeteries in afternoon services.

Claiborne Grange Honors Local High School Graduates

The Claiborne Grange met May 24 with Worthy Master Dwight Norris presiding to honor Richwood High School seniors. Attendees included Betty Jo Webster Doris Randall Valera Grindell Roberta Hamilton Thomas Shields. Christine Clark won first in the house dress sewing contest with Bessie Shoup second Madonna Speyer third. Phyllis Clark and Margaret Minner won youth contest first and second. Refreshments for 66 were served. cookies and fruit will be provided by the youth group on June 14.

Tragic Death Of Child In Ohio Yard Accident

David Joseph Riedmiller age 3 years 8 months died Sunday afternoon at home three miles south of Pharisburg Ohio after a box toppled onto him while he played in his yard. Coroner Bolinger cited a broken neck as the cause. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Faulkner Funeral Home Marysville with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

District V F W Encampment Held in Newark Last Week

District No 11 V F W held its annual encampment in Newark on Sunday May 23 with Mound Builders Post and Auxiliary 1060 as hosts. District President Valley Ford of Columbus presided along with officers and visitors from several auxiliaries and posts. The event included a parade, installations planned for July, and recognition of hospital reports and district officers.
