Richwood Youth Wins State Pole Vault Title
Imant Samils of Richwood becomes the first state Class A pole vault champion for his town. He cleared 11 feet 8 inches after advancing through 11 feet 4 and 11 feet 6 earlier rounds, edging West Alexandria’s Don Green as a cloudburst paused the event. Samils began track in Richwood in 1957 and built toward a relays and league wins before his state conquest.

Special Meeting of Baccarat Unit No. 40 Held
Mrs. Rodney Boda presided at the May 25 special meeting of Baccarat Unit No. 40 American Legion Auxiliary. Officers for 1960 1961 were proposed by the nominating committee and include Lena Weatherby as president Gladys Beckley as 1st vice president Glenna Stout as 2nd vice president Martha Winkle as treasurer Zita Griffith as secretary Irene Fogle as sergeant at arms Lucille McVicker as chaplain and Blanche Howard Fannie McNeal Ruth Riley and Nona Boda as executive committee. Election is set for June 8 with all members urged to attend. A district summer convention is planned for June 5 at West Jefferson High School with District President Lee McElroy in charge and Department secretary Mrs Lee E Moore guest speaker. Following the meeting Memorial Day wreaths and sprays were prepared and refreshments served. Next Legion Home meeting June 8 at 8 p m for annual officer election.

Albert Family Injured In Three-Car Crash
The Albert family of near Richwood sustained injuries in a three car crash on Route 739 west of Green Camp in Union County. Eight were taken to San Antonio Hospital in Ken ton. Mrs Albert 29 remained in good condition with possible internal injuries and other injuries. The crash occurred at 10 20 am when William D Carr 70 of near Marion pulled onto 739 into the path of Robert E Cellar 19 of near Marion. Cellar and Richard Cellar 8 were treated and released from Marion General Hospital. Carr is summoned to appear June 20 in Union County Court at Marysville. Mr and Mrs Bud Williams attended the Alumni Banquet. Mrs Williams is the former Evelyn Reams.

Plans for the Second Annual Farm Orama at the Russell P. Case Farm northeast of Richwood Ohio outline three days of live demonstrations on September 8 9 and 10. 44th Annual Alumni Banquet Held Friday Night
The Richwood High School Alumni Association held its 44th annual banquet Friday in the school cafeteria serving 219 with 50 at the dance due to bad weather. Sunset Serenaders provided music. G William Zuspan of 2902 Highland Ave Broomall Pa assistant professor of metallurgical engineering at Drexel Institute has been named director of the Drexel College of Engineering Teacher Training Program He will supervise instruction in teaching techniques and the program is described as the first of its kind run from within a college He also was elected chairman of the Middle Atlantic section of the Young Engineering Teachers Committee of the American Society of Engineering Education. Jacob Charles Bowersmith 75, a former Magnetic Springs resident, died May 27 at Chillicothe General Hospital after five years of ill health. Born May 28, 1884 in Union County, he married Bessie Vigor in 1909. Memorial Day Celebration Draws Big Crowd in Town
Despite poor weekend weather the Memorial Day program went ahead with a Saturday parade the largest in years. Miss Nancy Evans was crowned queen and received a $100 Savings Bond from Mayor John Brobeck. A Lions barbecue sold over 1500 chicken servings as fireworks capped the three day festival. Tom Thomasson led the event and thanked volunteers for a community success.
