Mr and Mrs Otis R Congrove of Richwood announce the engagement of their daughter Jeannette Copeland to Sgt Daniel J Eppele son of Mrs Bernice N Eppele of Chicago Ill The bride to be is a Grant Hospital School of Nursing graduate and works at Children's Hospital Columbus Sgt Eppele is stationed at Naval Air Station Marine Detachment in Columbus Ohio.
The Phila thea S. S. class of Union Baptist Church met December 15 at teacher Mrs. Ethel Cochran's home for an all day meeting. Mrs. Cochran and her daughter served a noon dinner. President Mrs. Mabel Field opened with a song. Mrs. Eva Temple spoke on Luke chapter 2. Eleven members two guests and four children answered roll call. Mrs. Taylor led prayer and a gift exchange followed. Mrs. Marks flew to California for Christmas with son Floyd Marks and family.
December gathering of the Summersville Friends Ladies Aid Society met at Mary McMahan’s home with Selah McMahan assisting. Bernice Phipps led carols, Jennie Jackson and Lizzie Potts handled devotions, and a member program followed. Sixteen members and guests enjoyed refreshments. NEXT meeting set for January at Mrs. Hazel Hull’s home.
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Matteson hosted a Sunday dinner with guests including Lloyd Matteson and family, Robert Snowden from Marysville, Denver Sandy and children from LaRue, Wayne Dilger and family, Frank Matteson, Justus Fish, Paul Snowden and son, Mark Olson from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Miss Betty Jo Webster.
Mr and Mrs John Evans of Prospect entertained guests on Monday December 26 including Mr and Mrs Sam Miley and John, Mrs Emma Stiffler, Mrs Laura Stiffler, Mrs Susie Haskell, Mrs Viola Bradshaw and John, Mr and Mrs Dwight Miley, Mr and Mrs Craig of Marion, and Mr and Mrs Dana Mulvaine of Pittsburgh Pa.
Mrs. and Mrs. R Perry visited Newark for a short stay with local acquaintances. The trip appeared to focus on social calls and sightseeing around the city during their visit.
Ten people were injured Monday afternoon when two cars collided at the 297 307 intersection west of Richwood near Don Taylor’s residence. Thomas Postell, 17, Marion, was critically injured and sent to University Hospital, Columbus. others were treated at Memorial Hospital, Marysville.
Charles K. Goddard of New Bloomington pled guilty to driving while intoxicated and was fined 104.60 with three days in jail. Arthur Sullivan of Richwood pled guilty to speeds of 100 mph in a 45 mph zone and was fined 59.60. James Davis Jr. of Marion pled guilty to driving left of center and was fined 14.60. Carl E. Oberdier of Richwood pled guilty to reckless operation. this second offense earned him 58.60.
A gift exchange was enjoyed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miller and their daughters on Christmas Eve attended by Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Miller and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller and son. Mrs. Miller served sandwiches and homemade ice cream and cake.
Karen and Sharon Phillips daughters of Mr and Mrs Robert Phillips of near Byhalia were selected by Martha Douse Dance Studio in Marion to present a dance number last Wednesday night at the setae ae.

Preliminary 1954 Census figures report Union County with 255 stores totaling 24.513 million dollars in sales up 61.7 percent from 1948. Payrolls covered 177 stores with 797 workers and 1.872 million dollars in payroll. Major lines include food, automotive, and general merchandise with 285 proprietors.
Mr. and Mrs. George Cowgill hosted a turkey dinner on Christmas day in Richwood. Santa distributed treats to children and gifts to all, with guests including Charles Aukland and daughters Eva Marie and Vickie Lynn of Attica, Vernon Cowgill's family, Don Cook, Oliver Cowgill, and others. Mary and Barbara Pierce joined later for afternoon and evening visiting.

Grace Chapel W S C S met at Azile Phillips home on Wednesday December 21 with Hazel Clark in charge. The opening number There’s A Song in the Air and a Christmas Story scripture reading followed by a Christmas Wish Poem. Florence Ruhl led prayer. Blanch Tracy reported as secretary and Lillian Cook as treasurer. Plans were made for a rummage sale next month. Cook Book sales and penny jars were noted. The afternoon centered on a talent table auction and a Christmas exchange among friends and secret sisters. Hostess offered colorful refreshments for the season.

Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Don Temple and son Jimmy, Mr. and Mrs. William Russell, Linda and Stevie, Perry Temple of Mt. Victory, a student at O. S. U., and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Temple with their young son, plus the hosts.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hanahan of Knoxville Tennessee spend their holiday vacation with Mrs Harley Wood and husband and other relatives here during a visit.

Mr and Mrs Earnest Moore of Kinney Pike hosted a turkey dinner on Christmas Day for their children and grandchildren. Guests included Harry Moore of Bucyrus J R Moore and sons near Prospect Paul Moore and family William E Moore and children near Pharisburg Ed Cunningham of Pharisburg joined for afternoon and supper. A Christmas exchange followed the meal and pictures were taken.
Magnetic Springs Foundation thanks Richwood friends for Christmas program help and donations. Special recognition goes to Mr. Pence the high school music director and his students for the performance on Monday December 19, plus the women who played carols during lunch.
The S. S. class met December 16 in the church basement for a Christmas party. Elaine Gulliford and Vonnie Mosher led carols. Marjorie Gulliford read the Christmas Story. Sixteen members and five children attended. gifts were exchanged and refreshments served. The group voted to discontinue regular monthly meetings and elected officers will be chosen January 1.
Christmas Day dinner was shared at the Loren Lewis home with extended family including Joe Lewis, John E Lewis, Phil lips, Lehnert family, and Warye relatives. A Christmas exchange and a box opening from Loren and family across Illinois and nearby towns followed.
Last Thursday evening Mary Fields attended a supper hosted by Elizabeth Ann Parish daughter of Wilbur and Mrs Parish near Essex to celebrate Elizabeth Ann's birthday anniversary.
Mr and Mrs Mark Olson of Albuquerque New Mexico spent their holiday vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs Lloyd Matteson southeast of Richwood. They were accompanied home by Betty Jo Webster who will spend some time in New Mexico.

A series of Friday morning accidents on North Franklin Street due to icy roads hospitalized one person. Charlene Converse, 18, lost control and was ejected after hitting a light pole and tree. She was treated at San Antonio hospital in Kenton for shock and bruises.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Phillips and their daughters were supper guests at the Ross Sherman residence in Mt Victory Christmas night and later visited at the Van Stephen son home.
Dr and Mrs Roy Jolley were guests on Christmas day of their son in Columbus.
