Soil And Water Conservation District Elects Officers
Clarence Durban of Plain City is re elected chairman of the Union Soil and Water Conservation District board at its December meeting. Walter Morse Milford Center is vice chairman and Merrit Monson Richwood secretary treasurer. Members include Emery Zahn Marysville and Martin Burns Milford Center. The group plans to attend an Area Supervisors meeting in Marion January 10 and the Ohio Federation annual meeting in Columbus January 21 22 and 23 with Durban as delegate. The basic soil and water conservation farm plan for Rupert McCully York Township was approved. Attending were Durban Morse Zahn Monson Irwin Rausch Wilson Extension Agent Steele Bleyer Yeager SCS staff and Mrs Don Smith district clerk. Representative Clarence J Brown announced his reelection bid for Congress subject to the May Republican primary. The Clark County Republican Committee backed the move. Springfield is the district’s largest city in Clark County.

Roe Hershman Dies at 77 on December 21
Roe Hershman 77 of Route 2 died December 21 at his residence after a two week illness. Born April 13 1886 in Coshocton Ohio he was the son of William Taylor and Emma Hedge Hershman. He never married and is survived by his sister Vera Lewis Route 2. Twin brother Ray and another sister Pearl predeceased him. Funeral services were held December 23 at Winter Funeral Chapel with Rev Earl Cosand officiating and burial at Claibourne Cemetery.

Special Meeting Sets North Union District Direction
The New School Board of the consolidated district in Union County met at Richwood High School. They kept the name North Union for now and invited PTA and Booster groups to submit three names each for future consideration. The board confirmed all teaching contracts and kept the salary schedule from the former Richwood Magnetic District, with Washington-York staff seeing raises effective January 1. Non teaching staff contracts were approved with no salary changes. Co executive heads Renner and W. were briefed on duties, and Renner and Fetter were tasked to draft a master plan with high school input for winter presentation.
