In Macogdoches Texas a Christmas celebration turned deadly when a stray bullet struck 13 year old Mitch Bird, killing him. The father then fired into the crowd wounding Ed Lee, Reuben Chandler, and Edgar Moore, all Black, with one later dying.
In Grand Saline Texas a freight wreck derailed 15 cars near Silver Lake injuring five people some seriously. The Texas & Pacific Cannon Ball engine detached for a wrecking crew derailed on return injuring four men but none fatally.
An unknown man rode to Matt Keith's Fletcher store and post office in Panola County Mississippi about noon and called him to the door. He shot Keith twice and he died instantly. The shooter escaped.

Steubenville Ohio December 24 Joel H Walker mayor of Mt. Pleasant was fatally injured while using a long blade knife to put up a mentor in his home. He drew the knife toward him fell and the blade pierced his left breast.
Washington announces Governor Leslie M. Shaw of Iowa will become secretary of the treasury to succeed Lyman J. Gage. Secretary Wilson remains as secretary of agriculture. Transfer date to be decided by mutual convenience, likely in January.
Havana December 26 A banquet for United States fleet officers hosted by Cuban veterans. Gen Carlos Garcia presided Gov Gen Wood praised a future Cuban republic Higginson thanked Cubans for hospitality noting no political aims Capt McCalla honored Gen Garcia and Cuban courage during the war.

Gen Lord Kitchener authorizes fresh wings in southern and eastern Transvaal, led by prominent Boer leaders elected by burghers. Guthrie Oklahoma December 26 Alfred 8 Dewitt a United States commissioner and city clerk of Guthrie died Wednesday. He was a native of Montreal Canada.
Kansas City sport note reports a boxing ten round match ending in a draw. Jack Beauschelte of Chicago and Jack Graham of Indianapolis fought Wednesday night in Kansas City Missouri, the bout ending even on points.
Lon Boxer was killed and Jim Caffey badly wounded in a duel near Coxville. Caffey was brought to Lockport and jailed.
In Caldwell Ohio on December 24 Vera Schafer five years old died in great agony after consuming canned peas. An accompanying child grew gravely ill. An hour after Vera’s death her body darkened, authorities reported.

D P Wheeler cashier of the Citizen's National Bank Akron Ohio was found dead in front of the vault on Wednesday afternoon. He was killed by an electric shock from handling a lamp socket while opening the vault door, forming a fatal current.
Three hundred quarts of nitro glycerine exploded three miles from Findlay Ohio in a magazine owned by the Findlay Glycerine Co. No one was killed. The blast wrecked the residence area with shattered windows downed chimneys and plaster torn away as if by an earthquake. Property damage was extensive.
At 1 30 AM in Toledo two miles from the city center a freight truck from ladder No 7 collided with a Dorr street electric car. Seven firemen on board were bound for a fire. Capt John B Ward Joseph Burdee and John E Schultz of Company 7 are dead. Three other firemen were seriously injured and J W Alexander on the car was fatally hurt. Motorman J E Hughes and conductor Cliff Cline are reported fatally injured.
Painesville Ohio December 24 An attempt by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company to secure a right of way over property claimed by the Morris Garfield syndicate at Richmond Ohio was thwarted Monday by a court injunction. The case involves important territorial interests in the contested area.

In Cleves Ohio on December 24 Jack Tolliver of North Bend was buried when thaw loosened a large bin. Twelve men labored about five minutes to rescue him. Doctors say they have little hope of saving his life.
Michael Kelly aged 65 died by his own action in his cell at Tima Q county jail while awaiting transportation to the Toledo asylum. He reportedly tore bed sheets into strips and hanged himself, per jail officials.
