Gas users endure severe cold spike across Ohio Fuel region

Ohio Fuel Gas Company faced record demand during a 21 day cold spell from November 26 to December 16. Manager J C Bernard said 720000 customers in 59 counties used more gas than ever before, with typical home users heating more than 1.5 times their normal load and 2 1 2 times ahead of the prior month. Since 1946 the company has invested heavily in pipelines and storage to meet such conditions.

Registered Guernsey cow makes high production record

Grove Farm Royal Meryl, a registered Guernsey cow owned by Dean G. Overly of Marysville Ohio, posted a record 10507 pounds of milk and 520 pounds of fat on official production testing. The cow was a senior three year old milked twice daily for 305 days under Ohio State University supervision.

Magnetic Springs Foundation Extends In-Patient Care Offers

The Magnetic Springs Foundation announces limited in patient care at special rates for Ohio region residents, sponsored by organizations or individuals. President Charles M. Frank says the plan follows board approval and funding from anonymous gifts supporting rehabilitation for children with polio, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, arthritis and related injuries. The center expands its program with a new cerebral palsy therapy department, a summer camp for handicapped youth, and a festival that raised over 12000 dollars to reduce debt and improve staff and facilities.

New Contest Planned For 4 H and F F A Steers

A rate of gain contest with awards sponsored by the Union County Beef Improvement Association is announced for 1959. Eligible to enter are all 4 H and FFA steer projects. Steers will be weighed at project start and at exhibition at Richwood or Union County Junior Fairs. Steers must be beef breeds and identified by ear tattoo. Lions and Guests Enjoy Annual Christmas Party

The Richwood Lions Club held its annual ladies night Christmas party at the grade school cafeteria on December 18 with 145 Lions Lionesses and guests. A ham dinner was provided by the Senior class. The District Governor Norman Kreuzberg spoke briefly. Santa distributed favors and a gift exchange followed. The Ridge Sisters sang, Lena Milligan played piano and accordion for carols. January meetings were moved to the second and fourth Thursdays.

Retired Marion Barber Dies Thursday Noon

John L. Jolley 79 of Marion dies at his home on 308 S High Street after years of declining health. Born February 14 1870 in Essex he married Cora Cheney in 1900 and Ruth Porter in 1948.
