Cleveland Ohio December 22 James Gildea eighty three years old is under arrest on a charge of assault to kill. His aged mother lay critically wounded and near death after the attack. Police say the son assaulted her as she slept.

Despondent husband murders wife and three children
Roscoe W. Derby an expert machinist shot and killed his wife Della and their three children Harold Alice and Thomas Wilbur before turning the gun on himself. The crime occurred around 4 a.m. after Derby had returned from shopping for Christmas gifts. Derby left a note to friend Thomas Bell and was found beside his wife in the dining room with ten shots fired. Mrs Derby was a cousin of Geo W Kosh and had formerly lived in Ashland Ohio.
