Cripple Creek Arrest of Western Federation Leader

James A Baker of Slocan British Columbia, a Western Federation of Miners executive member, went to Cripple Creek to set up a cooperative store for strikers. He was arrested by the military, detained ten hours, and released on the condition he leave the district. He then went to Denver and reported the incident to British consul H V Pearce who said he would forward the complaint to the British government.

Seven Boilers Explode In St Louis Transit Power House

A battery of seven boilers exploded at the St Louis Transit Co power house on Monday night killing three employees and injuring six as the building collapsed. Prof Ben F Koons Dies After Illness at Connecticut College

Prof Ben Franklin Koons, professor of natural history and curator of the college museum at Connecticut Agricultural College, died at his Storrs home after a yearlong cancer of the throat. Despondent husband murders wife and three children

Roscoe W. Derby an expert machinist shot and killed his wife Della and their three children Harold Alice and Thomas Wilbur before turning the gun on himself. The crime occurred around 4 a.m. after Derby had returned from shopping for Christmas gifts. Derby left a note to friend Thomas Bell and was found beside his wife in the dining room with ten shots fired. Mrs Derby was a cousin of Geo W Kosh and had formerly lived in Ashland Ohio.
