Santa Claus will arrive in Richwood Friday at 7 00 PM near the square Christmas tree. Children present will receive a treat from the jolly visitor as local merchants and the American Legion sponsor the event with a family friendly program and late shopping.
Richwood churches celebrated the season with varied entertainments and music. At First Methodist a children’s program drew a large audience Sunday at 7 PM. The First Baptist mixed choir performed the cantata Prepare Him Room led by Rosemary Hadjer with organ by Mabel Gill. Central Methodist held morning child’s program and evening cantata The Rose of Christmas led by Jeanne Winter Harger, with joint attendance from other churches and a capacity crowd.
The Finetta Class of Central Methodist Church met in the church parlors last Friday night with president Mrs. Anna Chapman presiding. Devotions by Mrs. Ward Evans and a program of Christmas readings and music followed. Co chairs for the gift table were Mrs. Alta Marvin and Mrs. Cora Wood.
Richwood Independent Agricultural Society elected five new directors for three years: R. B. Dildine Roy Hoffman R. W. Lenox Bernard Gray and D. J. Riley replacing J W Cunningham. Officers named include Dildine president Fryman vice president Lowe secretary and Hoffman treasurer. Lowe named delegate to Ohio Fair Managers Convention in Columbus January 12 13 1949.
Revival services begin at Bethel Church York charge Sunday evening January 2 at 8 pm. Music led by the York Sisters. Pastor Charles E. Cramer preaches. Mrs. William Thornhill of Parker City Indiana travels to Richwood due to mother Mrs. Chester Cox illness.
Mr and Mrs Glenn Beckley of Douglas Georgia are spending the season away from home as their travels unfold with plans to return later.
last Friday evening 38 members of the Crusaders class and families gathered in the church basement for a Christmas party. Leah Stallsmith led devotionals and Eliza beth Monson presented a Christmas story from St Luke 21 20. Reverend Elwood led prayers and Rev’d Elwood announced January revival services at Essex church.
Mrs Earl Patterson hosted the Farm Ladies' Social Club Christmas gathering with president Sarah Robert in charge. Participants sang Silent Night and First Noel, read Christmas stories, and prizes awarded for song identification. Guests included Mrs Carlton Conwell and children. Sunshine Sisters revealed with gift exchange.
The Children of the Church of Christ present a Friday evening program at 7 30 followed by the choir under Marvin Fogt directing the Christmas Story in song All are invited to attend.
The Christian Adventure Class of the First Methodist Church held its Christmas party at Betty Cameron’s home with Christa Randall assisting. Devotions featured Christmas Madonna by Helen Collier. Delores Ballard led the business meeting and Ruth Roberts won a contest. Twelve members attended and a Lions Club supper was voted for January. Lunch followed. The January meeting will be at Virginia Southard’s home.
The Essex Methodist Church hosts a two week evangelistic revival starting January 2 1949 at 8 pm with daily services except Saturdays. Candles and communion mark the opening, guest preacher Rev Fred McGinnis from Quincy starts January 3 with Rev Wallis Elis leading song and nightly music. Local stores close during services.
Richwood beat Magnetic 43 to 31 on Tuesday with Cheney scoring 20 as the Tigers dominated offense and held Magnetic well back from the basket. Mt Gilead toppled Richwood 47 to 43 in a Friday clash, Osborn delivering late work to seal the win for the Indians.
Mr and Mrs Rodney Boda and daughter hosted a family Christmas dinner Sunday with many relatives present including Mr and Mrs Paul Harvey Luther Miller Kenneth Harvey Paul Martino and families Ay mear Mt Victory and others from Belle Center Bellefontaine and vania One sister and brother were absent Rev W S Mowery to speak Sunday evening at First Methodist church
