Death of Dr James Cutler Richwood Leader Dies at 79

Obituary recounts Dr James A Cutler a longtime Richwood merchant bank president and former state senator born April 23 1831 in Delaware County Ohio who died December 17 1910 aged 79 years eight months and six days at his home on East Bla grove Street. He served in the Mexican and Civil wars, practiced medicine, led a drug business then banking, and was a lifelong Republican and Methodist Episcopal member. A memorial biographical sketch by Col W L Curry notes his public service and deep friendship. The funeral was held Monday at his home with Rev Cramer officiating. Surviving relatives include a brother Orange Cutler and several in-laws and nephews.

Richwood Band Plans Concert at Opera House Friday

The Richwood band will perform Friday evening at the opera house featuring band music recitations and vocal selections. Admission is 10 cents to all parts of the house. invite the public to turn out and support the boys.

Fair Board Shifts Richwood Fair to October Start

The Richwood Tri-County Fair Association votes to hold the next fair the first week in October, citing better seasonality and business for Richwood. The board removes breeding stables, stays in the Mad River Valley Circuit, and plans officer elections at the opera house on January 6.

Richwood Doctor Elected President of Ohio Medical District

Dr. B P Hall of Richwood was elected president of the Tenth District Medical Association of Ohio, a ten county region including Crawford Delaware Fairfield Franklin Knox Madison Morrow Pickaway Ross and Union. The honor reflects his long service and active involvement in the profession. Mrs. D E Ogan Mrs. Benj Hodge and Miss Vera Hershman visited Marion Saturday. Village Council Chooses Engineer for Street Plans

The council voted to employ an engineer to prepare the plans profiles and specifications for the street. A Carpe Diem club resolution commending village officials was read and placed on file after motions by Husted and McAllister. The meeting adjourned after minor business and bill payments to January first Monday.

W. H. Conboy and Chas. Adams brought home an E. M. F. Studebaker touring car in Columbus on Monday. It is exhibited at Conboy's carriage repository where he also serves as agent for the E. M. F. David Melick Not Dead Alive In California Now

A Richwood reader reports that David Melick who left Ohio for California years ago is alive and in better health. Neighbors recall a Gazette Republican item announcing his death, but Melick jokes he is “the liveliest corpse in California” and asks neighbors to spread the truth.

Houk Coal Mine Official Visits Richwood

J L Houk of Uhrichsville Ohio superintendent of the Houk coal mine at Stillwater visited Richwood on Tuesday as a guest of Uriah Cahill and wife and old friends. He called on the Gazette Republican and renewed his subscription for another year visiting grandparents in York township.

Sunday School Class Hosted by Dr. Thompson in York

Dr. C. L. Thompson and his wife entertained their Sunday school class, twenty-nine young women aged sixteen to twenty-one, at their York home last Friday evening. The gathering featured games, music by Lydia Hoover Floris Hines Mildred and Mable Rodgers, a two course luncheon, chicken sandwiches fruit coffee cake and brick ice cream, and heartfelt thanks to the hosts.
