Union County officials issue a news release to voters clarifying budgeting notes for the sheriff and matron, jail meals catering, officer salaries, and a planned jail renovation with about 100000 in matching State and Federal funds expected to start in early 1974.
Union County Sheriff Ted Byus aged 29 resigns effective January 31 1974 after about one year in office He joined the highway patrol at Delaware and was sworn in January 1 this year succeeding the late Sheriff Edward Amline The county prosecutor Gary McKinley praises Byus as honest capable and hopes for public input on improving law enforcement and the criminal justice system in Union County
The 1974 dog licenses go on sale December 20 in Union County. Mail the information and a $2 fee to the Union County Auditor in Marysville to receive tags by mail, or buy at local outlets with a 35 cent service charge. A January 21 deadline incurs a $2 penalty, and kennel licenses are $10 with a $5 late penalty.
Residents are urged to plan ahead for gasoline during the two holiday weeks. Cramer Bugg Sohio will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and stay closed Christmas Day, open New Year’s Day. Householder Sohie closes 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and is closed Christmas Day. New Don's Gulf may close around 5:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve and remains closed all Sundays. Certified Oil closes at noon Christmas Eve and Day, and New Year’s Eve and Day.
Volunteer Fire Department of Leesburg Township responded at 5 55 a m Tuesday to the Zimber Inn in Magnetic Springs. Seventeen firefighters fought the blaze for about two hours. The front area suffered heavy damage with heat and smoke elsewhere, and a rear apartment was smoke damaged while its occupant is hospitalized. Investigators believe a faulty transformer on an advertising sign may be involved.
Mr and Mrs Donald Foos and their family from Amherst spent Friday with their parents and grandparents Mr and Mrs Edgar Foos.
North Union District principals report the final Campbell Soup label drive yielded large totals. Claibourne Elementary led with 13,699 labels earning a film kit set. Jackson Elementary collected 2,350 labels for a cassette recorder. Byhalia York and Leesburg Magnetic submitted 4,175 and 2,100 labels respectively for classroom audio visual gear.
Santa arrives in Richwood this Thursday through Saturday with treats for all good children. Children can meet Santa Saturday at his headquarters for holiday cheer.
