Area youngsters sharpen ice skates and monitor Richwood Lake daily as a cold spell continues. Police urge skaters not to go alone or venture far from others, avoid fires near the ice edge, and always call the police before skating to ensure safety.
North Union Wildcat Boosters held a regular meeting at the high school. Mrs. Charlotte Markley expressed appreciation from the Pep Club for booster help with new activities and blouses. Coach Dick Hamsher spoke on defense and upcoming opponents. The group planned a Harlem Stars game and decided to buy fruit refreshments for the basketball teams.
An accident at 8 p m on December 10 at E Ottawa Street and George Street involved Dorothy Lou LeMasters failing to negotiate a corner while turning onto George Street and striking a car stopped at the corner. The LeMasters vehicle suffered a damaged left fender while Muriel Ferguson of 149 East Ottawa had side damage to her car. Officer James Reese investigated.
The Story of Artaban the Other Wise Man will be presented at the First Baptist Church on December 22 at 7 30 p m. The play written by Clive Robbins features music by Paul Nordoff and follows Artaban as he seeks meaning beyond the Nativity. Cast includes Artaban and 15 other roles with Mrs Charles Gill providing descriptive music and Mrs Harold Simmons directing.
Mrs. Kelson Southard was admitted to Marion General Hospital on Monday for treatment. The report lists only the admission without further details of diagnosis or prognosis.
Leesburg Grange hosts Harvest Supper and Boosters Night with a Christmas program led by Mrs. David Hall. Lawrence Arbogast judged the corn show awarding first to Frank Phillips and listing other prizewinners. seed corn prizes donated by local businesses. Lucy E. Haywood a 25 W Bomford St Richwood Religious Education teacher for North Union Elementary Schools was hospitalized with a broken left wrist and hairline fracture of the right arm after a Dec 12 collision. She struck a parked dump truck belonging to R J Mason at 261 S Franklin St. Her car was a total loss and she underwent surgery at Marion General Hospital.
The NU Wildcats earn their fifth win by outpacing Alder 70 to 64. Mike Morgan led scoring with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Al Van Winkle and Len Thornton added 20 and 11. NU hit 18 of 41 free throws and 26 of 50 field goals.
The North Union Wildcat Boosters Club hosts a December 28 basketball doubleheader featuring the Harlem Stars versus former Richwood and North Union players. Preliminaries spotlight 7th and 8th graders. Coach Irv Markley is arranging area stars for an entertaining evening. First game starts 7 p.m. and the main event at 8 p.m. Tickets available at Swartz Motor Sales, Thomson's Hardware, and Jim's Barber Shop.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Robert M. Chiaramonte announced the promotion of Patrolman William R. Cowgill to corporal. He moves to the Akron Post from Sandusky after serving there since 1966, with earlier time at Hamilton. Cowgill is a Richwood native and Richwood High School graduate, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Cowgill, married to Doris Jean Cremains of Magnetic Springs, and affiliated with the Northern Ohio Crime Clinic and Port Clinton Lodge BPOE.
The Carpe Diem Club hosted its annual guest night on December 12 at the Baptist Church. Twenty-two members introduced guests as they showcased the play Other Wise Man arranged by Clive Robbins with music by Mary Ann Charles and Alyce Foreman.
Mrs Earl McMahan of S Franklin Street was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack.

A small outbuilding on Tawa Road near Route 3 caught fire at 12 15 p m on Saturday December 14. No damage beyond the structure was reported and no injuries were noted.
Jackson Elementary School students present Christmas in Customs on Thursday December 19 at 7 30 p m in the Jackson School auditorium. The program is directed by Mrs Esther Sherwood with assistance from Mrs Elnora Colegrove Kathryn Price Pauline White and Pauline Livy.
Mr and Mrs Richard Beeney and Peggy vacationed in Florida visiting the homes of Robert Lyons Ted Lyons Harry Smith Lynn Beeney and Don Beeney who is recovering from surgery.
Richwood Lions and Leesburg Guiding Mothers host Thursday events. Friday lists B B Highland and Children’s Christmas Party. Saturday includes B B Elgin. Monday features Gun and Game Club activities.
The North Union Board of Education held its 25th likely final 1968 meeting at the high school. It approved bills and arranged potential borrowing if the State Foundation payment arrives late. The budget for 1969 is being prepared with three federal programs approved, including Title I.
The Community Choir presented the Christmas Cantata at Richwood First Baptist Church last Sunday with an estimated 325 attendees. Roanoke Bible College freshman chorus joined for a portion of the evening, later performing at the Church of Christ.
Mr and Mrs Clarence E Parrott of Ostrander celebrate 50 years of marriage with a New Year’s Day reception from 2 to 4 pm at the Ostrander Masonic building. The event also marks Mr Parrott’s 72nd birthday. Married January 1 1919 in Marysville, they have five children and 14 grandchildren and belong to the Delaware Bible Church.
