The Universal Tire and Supply Company will open a branch in the Richards building formerly occupied by George Y. Arthur. The new location will offer a complete line of automobile supplies tires and parts and be open for business soon.

B Y P U Christmas Party Delights Union Members

Mrs Charles Callahan president of the B Y P U hosted a Christmas party in the church basement on Saturday afternoon. Children drew prizes from a large Christmas pie and Santa Claus handed out popcorn and candy. Naomi Shoup supervised games as the kids displayed a quilt they made to be given to the Union County Children's Home.

Daughters of Veterans Elect New Officers

The Daughters of Veterans held their regular meeting Friday night and elected officers including President Anna Chapman Senior Vice Maude Blair Junior Vice Lena Moore Treasurer Rosella Krouse Chaplain Isabelle White Patriotic Instructor Nettie Sieg and council members Eva Prettyman Florence Davis and Blanche Rose No 8 Plans were made to entertain the comrades wives and widows with a five o clock dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Reuben Stults A Christmas exchange followed and members spent the rest socially.

Group No. 10 of the Baptist church met at Mrs Anna James home on Herbert street Friday and presented her with useful gifts after a pleasant day and appreciation of her leadership.

Golden Wedding Observed by Walker Family

Mrs R C Peet and son Bobby left Richwood for Batavia to attend a Christmas day open house marking Judge and Mrs W R Walker's fiftieth wedding anniversary. Also attending will be Penn A Walker and wife of Memphis and Mrs Arch Keen and family of Covington.

Mrs. J. H. Jenkins hosted a dinner at Walnut Plains farm for her father Smith Gearhart to mark his 86th birthday. Guests included Ralph G. Jenkins, Helen Louise, John Spitzer, Hoy H. Jenkins, James, Lynette, and the host family amid flags and Christmas decor.

Philanthropist Col. Joseph Schonthal Dies After Hernia Operation

Columbus philanthropist Joseph Schonthal 75 died Sunday at Grant hospital after hernia surgery. He built an iron firm in Columbus, funded charities, and supported the Schonthal camp near Magnetic Springs for Jewish youths. Funeral services were held at Temple Israel with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.

Richwood Girls Tie Magnetic Springs In See-Saw Clash

Richwood High School girls battled Magnetic Springs, ending 11-8 at half and finishing in a 6 24 6 tie? The magnetic team pulled away late, posting 24 points to Richwood’s 6 as Richwood’s boys also underperformed. The girls' game drew a capacity crowd and ended with a tying basket at the final whistle.

P. T. A. Christmas Program Delayed by Weather

The Richwood P T A meeting attracted a smaller crowd due to stormy weather. Mrs. F A McAllister led, with Mrs. R C Peet as program chair. The Tom Thumb wedding and tableaux were canceled for sickness, a church choir sang carols, and J E Langstaff spoke on education.

M. P. Aid Society Elects Officers

The M. P. Aid society held a regular meeting at the church last Wednesday afternoon. Officers elected include President Mrs. C. B. Phelps, vice president Mrs. J. E. Clark, secretary Mrs. Paul Fisher, assistant secretary Miss Ethel Stallsmith, treasurer Mrs. Ed Jones, with flower committee Mrs. B. F. Sloop and Mrs. R. D. Roberts. Completes Course at Columbus College for Embalmers

Clair White son of Mr and Mrs Frank White northwest of town completed his course with the Columbus College for Embalmers. He was the youngest in his class and ranked second. He has accepted a position with Shaw-Davis Funeral Directors Columbus and left Saturday to begin his new work.

Cantata by Women’s Choir to Greet Christmas Evening

The Women's Choir of the M. E. church presents a two part cantata The Song and The Star text by Herman von Berge music by Fred B. Holden next Sunday at 7 30 p m In addition to the cantata organ and piano selections and a Christmas reading will be performed Citizens are invited to attend.

Musical program at Claiborne M. P. Church Tuesday

A December Tuesday evening concert at Claiborne M. P. Church featured Rev Burl S Brown vocalist Mildred Brown pianist Cleatus Baker Ruth Slack violinist Helen Slack pianist with an offering for the church. The program included works by Schumann Grainger Chopin Dancla and Danela among others performed by Brown Baker Slack and friends.

Musical Club Hosts Holiday Program at West Ottawa Home

Miss Enid Zuspan hosted the Musical Club gathering on West Ottawa Street with fifteen members present. Performers Jeanette Parrott Helen Louise Sullivan Ernestine Bumgarner and Maxine Haines presented items from Evans Book No 2 and received diplomas and Book No 3. The group studied musical history and enjoyed refreshments. The next meeting is set for January 11 at Eilene Weller's home.

Entertains in Honor of Son's 21st Birthday

Mrs. Frank Reeley hosted a six o'clock dinner Sunday to celebrate her son Charles Graham's twenty first birthday. A red and green color scheme framed decorations and the dinner, with guests including Miss Esther Gracely Eleanor Porter Opal Johnson June Beaver and several relatives from Marion. Music and games followed the meal as the party continued into the evening.

Richwood Baptists Lose to Quincy in Key Matchup

The Richwood Baptist basketball team fell 31 to 16 at Quincy last Thursday evening. Quincy fielded a strong lineup and will host a return game on Christmas night. Richwood then hosts the Phi Kappa Gamma fraternity of Bliss Business College Columbus on local Baptist floor this Thursday evening.

In a Delaware range shoot last Friday Richwood Rifle Club beat Delaware 940 to 872. It marks Richwood's second match this season after opening with 900 points placing eleventh in the Ohio Rifle League winter tournament among 32 teams.
