Leo J. McCoy Dies After Heart Attack at Mt. Carmel

South Franklin resident Leo J. McCoy died Monday afternoon at Mt. Carmel Hospital Columbus after a brief illness from a heart attack. Born December 17, 1883 in Wilmington, he was a former cashier of the First National Bank in Richwood and linked to Richwood Products Inc. He leaves a widow Elizabeth King McCoy a son Elmore of Columbus a daughter in law Mrs. Ralph Workman seven grandchildren two brothers and two sisters. Rev. Roy Ballard will lead funeral services Thursday at 2 p m in the First Methodist Church with burial in Claibourne Cemetery conducted by Marion Winter.

Carpe Diem Christmas Meeting Held Thursday

The Richwood Carpe Diem Club met last Thursday afternoon at Giles McDaniel’s home on Tawa Road. Mrs. Marianne Foreman assisted hosting. Fire damages Mrs Hull residence estimated at 1500

Thursday evening a fire at Mrs. Orville Hulls home is believed to have started from a small attic transformer powering door chimes. The Richwood department confined the blaze to the upper story, with damage around 1500. Raymond department arrived after the fire was out.

The Semper Fidelis Class of the First Methodist Church met at Mrs. Lester Smith home with 22 members and one guest. Daisy Haines led devotions, Helen McDorman presided, and plans for a January Lions Club dinner were discussed. Archer Olive Dies Former Richwood Superintendent

Archer Olive a former Richwood Schools superintendent died at his Somerset Ohio home last week. He previously taught in Richwood Delaware County and Somerst after leaving Richwood in 1918. On his 85th birthday he received gifts and letters from Richwood pupils across the United States. Survived by two sons a daughter and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset and he was buried in the family lot there.

The Richwood FFA Chapter launches a three part highway safety drive. It will inspect vehicle defects such as lights horns and brakes. It will run a community education program with films and talks. It will host an automobile rodeo with driver education classes.

Mrs. Cora V. Ballard 84 Dies at Jane Case Hospital

Mrs. Cora V. Ballard, 84, died Sunday December 14 at 11 30 a m in Jane Case Hospital Delaware after two years of ill health. Born September 29 1874 in Union County she married J H Ballard in 1897. They ran the Ballard Hotel and Bath House at Magnetic Springs. She leaves husband Elden J Ballard Freda Scheiderer and Dr H J Ballard plus 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Building Destroyed On Case Farm Near Richwood

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a 30 by 60 foot building on the Case farm three miles northeast of Richwood on Lenox Road early Monday. Twelve hogs died in the blaze. owners Mr and Mrs Case were in Florida, so loss total unknown. Richwood firefighters arrived about 7 thirty and saved adjoining structures.

Santa Claus rode in on a fire truck to the Richwood opera house Monday night and was greeted by hundreds of children and parents. Snow fell as a spotlight lit Santa while merchants reported strong business and bands canceled by cold weather added festive charm. Living Figures Scene At First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church Youth and the new Builders class will stage the annual Living Figures scene on the church lawn for three evenings next week from 7 to 9 PM. Volunteers will portray Christmas figures in one hour shifts, continuing a project that began in 1951 under Rev. Robert Turner. After a barn fire at the Bem Ransome farm, church men rebuilt the scenery quickly using salvaged lumber.
