Union County Farmers Plan Defense Production Increases

Union County farmers outline plans to boost milk output by 18 percent and cow numbers 10 to 12 percent in 1942 from 1941. Egg production is slated to rise 32 percent and hogs 35 percent. beef, veal calves and soy cultivation also grow while wheat and corn acres may fall. Labor shortages or price shifts could alter these intents, but no major changes are expected now.

D of U V Met Monday Evening at Legion Home

The D of U V of the Civil War 1861 65 held its regular meeting Monday evening in the Legion Home with 15 members present. Margaret Blake presided and Ethel Stallsmith reported recovery from illness. The group will serve supper to the Lions Club December 19 and plans a defense bond purchase and a Christmas box for Pearl Babbs at Fort Bragg North Carolina. Pearl, 22, is a direct descendant of a Civil War veteran and is in field artillery training. Next meeting is January 5 1942 with officer installation.

First Methodist Choir to Present Christmas Service

The M E church choir directed by Aaron Darnell will perform a Christmas program Sunday at 10 30 am featuring Handel The Messiah excerpts two anthems solos and organ music. Rev Nelson will deliver a short Christmas sermon plus a full service with preludes anthems recitatives and carols.

The Central Methodist church W S C S held its monthly meeting with devotions by Mrs Minnie White. Highlights of the past year were given by Mrs Fannie McNeal. Officers elected include President Fannie McNeal and vice president Naomi Yarrington, with multiple secretaries and a Christmas luncheon to close.

The Semper Fidelis class of First Methodist met Monday evening at Mrs Laurence F Davis’s home. Mrs Jess Roberts led the meeting, Mrs Lee Decker gave devotions and Mrs Frank Cramer reviewed Women of the Bible. Contests and games followed with guests including Mrs T A Yearsley. Refreshments were served by the hostess and assistants.
