Council Votes on Police Pay and Old Ordinances Debated

City council last Monday December 14 discussed salary increases for the Police Chief and Village Night Officer. An emergency measure set to take effect January 1 1965 was amended to include raises while Ordinance 443 about station and pumps potential reinstatement was revisited for reestablishment.

Conservation Award Won by Robert Neill

At the 19th Annual Meeting of the Union Soil and Water Conservation District held in Richwood, Robert Neill of Dublin won the Ohio Wildlife Conservation Award for outstanding wildlife management in Union County. The event honored Watt Treese and showcased district achievements in 1964 including new cooperators, grassed waterways, field ditches, tile drains, farm ponds, and water control structures.

Death Claims Local Resident At Home

Mrs. Gladys M. Taylor age 65 of Route 2 Richwood died at her home December 10 at 1 30 a m She was born October 9 1899 daughter of A J and Sylvia Haines Miller She married Don Taylor September 24 1919 and is survived by one daughter Jeanette Brake four grandchildren one sister Opal Darnell Richwood and a brother Lowell Miller The funeral was held December 13 at the First Methodist Church with burial in Claiborne Cemetery Funeral services were conducted by Rev John Wagner and pallbearers were Frank Clevenger Robert Cheney Lee Stultz Wayne Smart Vern Zuspan Kenneth Davis and Gene English

Peace Corps volunteer Jim Minter in Gabon Africa

Jim Minter, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Dwight Minter of Richwood, serves with the Peace Corps in northern Gabon. He reports heat and health concerns, aid shortages, and ongoing construction of school housing while awaiting funding and a July 1965 return if possible. He trained in Vermont, the Virgin Islands, and Howard University and asks letters from home.

Highway Safety For The Holidays From Delaware Patrol

Delaware Highway Patrol Post commander Sergeant H E Voelker urged that state employees may not accept gifts from entities doing business with the state except for safety on the highways. He said gifts promoting safe driving are welcomed as a Christmas wish, while avoiding personal or material gifts. He urged drivers to show care on the roads for fewer accidents and more help to motorists in need.

Two Vehicle Accidents Mark West Ottawa Street Incidents

West Ottawa Street saw two early evening crashes in consecutive days. Alpha E. Dixon, 64, of Peoria struck an icy spot and a tree after sideswiping Betty Ransome on December 8. Robert A. Fraber, 18, of Kenton failed to stop at Fulton Ottawa and hit Pearl Evans, with both cars sustaining damage and no injuries reported. Police note the village accident rate edged lower from 1962 to 1963 with 60 incidents to date.

Suit filed over personal injuries and death damages

Pauline and Glennard Ne Radnor sue William Pierce as executor of Sylvia Pierce estate for fifty thousand one hundred dollars. Mrs Neel alleges she suffered injuries when Pierce drove her car from Co Rd 364 into the path of another vehicle. Mrs Pierce died in the crash. Neel seeks thirty thousand dollars for medical expenses and damages.
