North Union School Board Sets 1971 72 Plans And Policies

The North Union Board of Education met in regular session at the high school approving a Nature Club under the Science Department with Robert Tuttle as advisor, the Young Farmers Program for 1971 72 with Harold Karcher as instructor, and the hiring of Rose Ann Taylor as half day Kindergarten teacher at Magnetic Springs plus a primary Special Education teacher funded by Title I starting Feb 1 1972. A new policy places hourly workers on a pay period from the 20th to the 20th, salaries are adjusted by experience, and a Beginning Bus Drivers Training Class will begin the week of March 13. The board also authorized junior and senior high Special Education units, approved more Title III ESEA funds for equipment, and referred a past storm damage at Claiborne Elementary to insurance for repair and restoration of clock and bell systems. Early Christmas dismissal was approved and the Right to Read program set for Jan 21 with elementary dismissal at 1 30 pm. A reapportionment enables borrowing to finish 1971 expenses, and a Gateway Vocational School organizer will be appointed via the district Citizens Committee.

Adult Ceramics Classes Added to North Union Program

Superintendent Bill Stephan announces ceramics will be included in this year's Adult Education offerings. A Saturday morning class begins January 8 from 10 to 12 at the Richwood Civic Center 235 Grove St. Cost is 1 per child per session for 10 weeks plus extra for materials. Two adult ceramic classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7 30 to 9 30 at the Civic Center with registration through the high school or Mrs Woods. Instructor is Mrs Hornbeck of Green Camp.

Driver Loses Control in Two-Car Crash West of Richwood

A Dec 9 3:35 p.m. two-vehicle crash on St. Rt. 47 three miles west of Richwood involved Leonard Wesley Coyle 57 of West Mansfield and Ernest D Jenkins 16 of Richwood Rt. 3. Neither citation nor injuries reported. A Union County Sheriff's deputy investigated the incident.

Elgin Teacher Named To Ag Honorary Membership

Larry D. Parish of Route 3 Elgin is selected for membership in Gamma Sigma Delta the Ohio State University Chapter an honor society for agriculture. Parish teaches Vo-Ag at Elgin High School and will be formally initiated January 20 at the Ohio Union in Columbus.

Union Baptist Christmas Musical to Run December 20 21

Union Baptist Church Rt 1 Richwood presents Just in Time for Christmas a Christmas musical adapted from Head of the House by Grace Livingston Hill. The show at North Union Junior High School starts 7 30 p m on December 20 and 21 features 18 cast members, a large chorus, and original songs by the pastor. The plot follows seven wealthy siblings facing guardians aiming to split them up, with the eldest daughter aiming to win legal control at 21. Admission is free with a free will offering.
