Soldiers Memorial Discussion Asks County Help

On Tuesday evening R L Woodburn J L Cameron Geo M McPeek W G Snodgrase and Marion Hopkins of Marysville visited Richwood to discuss a soldiers memorial building estimated at ten to twenty thousand dollars. A Richwood meeting at G A R hall voted to ask Representative F T Arthur to introduce a bill allowing county commissioners to fund the project from the county treasury. About seventy residents attended. the vote carried without dissent. The Gazette invites further discussion from readers on the expenditure and project.

Newly Dedicated M. P. Church at Rushcreek

Rushcreek community celebrates the dedication of a remodeled M P church under Rev C H Hubbell. The project included roof and wall work, new pews, carpeted aisles, a 10 by 10 vestibule, open belfry, and a rear alcove with altar. Total cost cited as 1076 with 520 raised and 456 still needed, later covered by a canvass led by Rev J E Bailey.

Fire destroys W S Shirk livery barn at Raymond

The livery barn of W S Shirk at Raymond was destroyed by fire Monday at about 1 am. Loss to contents and building ran around 2400 dollars with 750 dollars insurance on contents and 650 dollars on building. Fire started in the hay mow at the rear and the entire structure and its contents were lost in under an hour.

Very Dry Months Mark Rainfall This Year

Over the past five months rainfall has been exceptionally low. July recorded 4.83 hundredths of an inch, August 1.99, September 2.43, October 0.51, and November 1.02. From December 1 to 10 inclusive the total was 1.76 hundredths of an inch, per J. E. Langstaff’s daily meteorological report.

Richwood Board of Education Adopts New School Facilities

The Richwood Board of Education purchased a new 12 by 20 foot fx for the school to replace a worn flag. Jessie M. Jones was elected fifth grade teacher, Mae Harriman resigning to study in Adrian Michigan. Abigail Taylor and Nora E. Lake were named substitutes for primary and grammar grades respectively. An entertainment by the 7th 8th grades and high school will be held in the Opera House Friday night December 20 featuring music, declamations, essays and drills. Doors open 7:30, show at 8, general admission 10 cents, reserved 15 cents. Tickets go on sale December 19 at Langstaff’s drug store.

Parkersburg Interurban Purchases Marietta Road Stock

Parkersburg Interurban Railway acquired three fourths of the stock of the Marietta Road. The merged lines will form a single company linking two cities and the line between them. The Camden interstate system from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh will later include this route, with $400,000 valued for the Marietta plant.
