Educators Attend In-Service Training On Character Education

Teachers from North Union and Fairbanks districts joined a two hour session led by Jay Mulkey of the Character Education Institute San Antonio Texas at North Union High School. The program used group work and self tests to rate 21 categories from justice to originality and discussed prevalent traits in each group.

State Lottery Audit Head Roy Newell Named

State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson announced Roy Newell 63 will head the new State Lottery Audit Division. The unit will work with the State Lottery Commission on accounting procedures disburse funds audit fiscal agents vendors and sales agencies and audit the commission quarterly. Newell has served on the Franklin County Commission since 1968 and was a business management consultant for 30 years.

No Rate Hike In New Photo Drivers License

Ohio official C Donald Curry denies rate increases for the new photo bearing driver license. The photo license costs 5 dollars plus 50 cent service charge and remains valid four years, cheaper per year than the previous 3-year licenses. Fees are set by law and require General Assembly approval.

Medicare claim deadline urged for 1971 to 1972 services

Marion Ohio district social security manager Joseph S Wiland urged beneficiaries to file all Medicare medical insurance claims for services from October 1 1971 through September 30 1972 by December 31 1973. He advised mailing in November to avoid Christmas mail delays and explained carry over rules that count late year bills toward the annual deductible. He invited help at the Social Security Office 284 South State Street Marion Ohio and noted claims should be mailed to Nationwide Medicare P O Box 57 Columbus Ohio 43216 promptly.

State Patrol To Continue Assisting Stranded Motorists

The Ohio Highway Patrol will keep helping motorists with disabled cars during weekend hours when stations are closed. Patrolmen will transfer fuel and arrange safe lodging but cannot supply fuel to continue travel. Drivers are urged not to drive from 9 p.m. Saturday to midnight Sunday.

Board Commends Levy Workers in Union County

Reverend James Baldwin of First English Lutheran Church and Mrs Barbara Krueger were praised by the Union County Mental Health and Retardation Board for long hours of service on the Mental Health Levy Committee. Dr Robert Fatham updated the board on a proposed Union County Drug Council and funding options. The next board meeting is January 25 with no December session.

Noon Busing Off and School Closure Deemed Necessary

At a Dec 3 meeting the North Union Board of Education voted to discontinue noon time bus service for kindergarten starting Dec 10 until fuel shortages ease. It also decided to close schools on Jan 3 and 4 to prevent January fuel oil shortages, with makeup days planned later. James Reece was hired to install the Oldham sewage and filtration plant for the Byhalia York building.

District Extends Campbell Label Drive To Dec 10

North Union District Elementary Schools extend the Campbell soup label deadline to December 10 to count for audio-visual equipment goals. Claiborne aims for 18 000 with a projector, Jackson seeks over 2 000 for a cassette player, Leesburg Magnetic targets 2 000 for a headphone set, and York Byhalia plans 4 175 labels for a record player.

Bloodmobile date set for December 10 at Civic Center

Blood donors are urged to visit the Bloodmobile at the Civic Center on Monday December 10 from noon to 6 30 p m to help Union County reach its quota. The county record clerk will update personnel records. Donors may designate blood for a specific patient with hospital details.

Medicopter Assist After Lumbering Injury Near Raymond

Richard Baldwin, a lumber worker from near Raymond, suffered a severe leg fracture when a tree fell on him while cutting. Ballinger ambulance and Richwood Emergency Squad coordinated a Medi-copter landing after locating the victim amid obstructed terrain. He was transported to University Hospital in Columbus and listed in room 891 in good condition.

Future Air Force Careerists Invited to Attend Program

Young men interested in Air Force Officer careers are invited to a program by Air Force Academy cadets at 7 30 p m on Wednesday Dec 26 at the Wright Patterson AFB Officers Club. The session targets high school juniors sophomores and freshmen and explains the nomination process typically filed in spring of the junior year. Entry is via the USAF Medical Center gate on Route 444 between Dayton and Fairborn.
