Corn base acreage vote set for December 11 in Union County
Farmers in Union County will vote on December 11 1956 on corn base acreage versus acreage allotments for 1957 and later. The base acreage would set a national 51 million acre base for 1957 allocated to farms by current methods with price support around 1.31 per bushel, while an allotment plan would offer about 1.36 per bushel. Polling places include New California Two House Washington York Taylor townships and others with polls open 8 am to 7 pm.

Publisher Bruce Gaumer Found Dead in Marysville Home
Bruce Barton Gaumer 75 publisher of the Marysville Evening Journal Tribune was found dead at his home Tuesday afternoon. Born Sept 9 1881 in Adamsville Ohio he had long worked in Union County journalism. Surviving: son F T Gaumer and daughter Mrs W E Behrens. Funeral services scheduled Friday at 2 PM at the residence.

Auto Accident Near Marion Kills Two Marion Men
An early Tuesday Route 30S crash near Marion killed Gene Ziegler 36 and William Bowman 25, both from Marion, after their car wrecked into a tree. Ziegler died at the scene. Bowman was pinned under the wreckage. Ziegler’s body was later recovered. coroner’s officials announced both skull fractures. Funeral arrangements for Ziegler are set for Friday at the Schaffner-Center Funeral Home in Marion.
