Union County 4-H Beef Club competed at the Cleveland livestock show in class 11 placing third behind Champaign Muskingum and Putnam counties. Roy Scheiderer and Carol McIlroy earned notable placings in Aberdeen Anguses while Earl Gibbs Jr. won grand champion with an Aberdeen Angus. Delmer Reed led the group with support from W. D. Wood and Mr McIlroy.

Truck Plunges 39 Foot Embankment In Marysville

A tank truck from Louisiana Refining Company operating near Marysville crashed after a collision that disabled its steering. It toppled over a 39 foot embankment by the Scioto River bridge on Marysville road, west of Delaware. Driver August Rausch escaped with a facial laceration. Rausch admitted failing to see H. W. Kurtz of Newark, who drove the small car involved. Kurtz’s sedan was damaged at the front.

County Peace Contest Winners Compete for Silver Medal

Union county declamation winners will perform Sunday night at the Methodist Episcopal church for the county award a silver medal. County winners advance to a district contest and district winners go on to state prizes with the first state prize a $500 scholarship.

Civil War Veteran Alva DeGood Dies at Home

Apoplexy caused the death last Tuesday night of Civil War veteran Alva DeGood born January 2, 1849. He served in Co. C 21st O V I and is survived by three sons Forest Adrian Mich Omer at home and Pearl Detroit. Funeral services were held Friday at his South Franklin Street home with Rev. Robert W. Peirce officiating and burial in Claiborne cemetery with S R Sanders in charge.

Lamb Prices Down As Receipts Surge In October

Lamb prices fell to year low in November and were near 1921 levels, says C R Arnold from Ohio State University. October lamb receipts across seven leading markets were the highest in ten years, yet feeding demand dropped and slaughter rose, with October the busiest slaughter month in 15 years. The U S lamb crop last spring was about 80 percent larger than the previous year, and future feeding is expected to fall versus 1927 28, with Colorado and western states reducing lamb feeding except Texas.

Richwood participants at Epworth church Marion attended a festival and chicken banquet on Friday November 30. Thirty booths were judged with Richwood earning third for artisticness and the Richwood League receiving honorary mention. Marion Epworth Seniors won first and Juniors second for artisticness. Flower hospital and Methodist Children's Home Worthington received an estimated 2000 dollars in product value.

York to meet York in season opener with both squads

The first basketball game of the season will be played with York at York next Friday night. Both the boys and girls teams will compete. The lyceum course opening with New Brooms was praised as a success and the second number features a criminology lecture by Dr Henry Black Burns on December 6.

A Tuesday morning fire at 11 30 at the Agnes Stultz residence on West Bomford street damaged the roof after likely chimney sparks started the blaze. Firemen controlled the flames with chemical extinguishing agents.

Isaac N. Evans Dies After Weeklong Illness

Isaac N. Evans aged 72 died Sunday at his home four miles south west of Richwood after a week with a cerebral hemorrhage. A farmer born in Union County, he married Mary Chapman in 1870 and is survived by his widow, four children including W H Evans and W D Evans, two daughters Mrs Levi Wernstaff and Mrs Lewis Hall, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were at Thompson chapel Tuesday with Rev. O V Sharrock officiating and burial in Shoup Cemetery. Lloyd Winter & Son had charge of arrangements.
