Announcement of the marriage of Edna Christine Colver to Maxwell Embrey took place in Chicago Illinois. Richwood merchants report busy week due to a cold snap. Fortnightly Club Thursday Entertainment at Mrs Lewis Home

Mrs Gladys Eddy with Miss Lois Lowe hosted the Fortnightly Club gathering at Mrs Lewis home. The program featured a Round Table on Better English led by Maxine Hall a Colloquialisms segment a violin solo by Rachel Oman and a piano solo by Margaret Ann Riley. Guests included Miss Mary Lake Mrs Winona Langstaff Mrs Lewis Lake and daughter Barbara and Mrs Fanny McNeal. After a social hour refreshments were served.

Fire razes two Beem's Addition homes early Monday

Fire believed to have started in a kitchen defect destroyed the Stithen residence and spread to Mrs. Rosy Tanner’s home in Beem's Addition around 4 a.m. Monday. Some furniture was saved at the Tanner home and insurance partially covered the losses.

Warranted Funds Allocated to Union County Schools

The Union County School System received warrants for the Fourth Quarterly settlement of the 1940 school foundation program. Payments ranged from $463.95 for Peoria Special R. to $6,348.98 for Claibourne- Richwood, with each school listed and totaling the district distribution.

Prospect Couple Weds at Baptist Church

Mr and Mrs John Griffith of Prospect announce the marriage of their daughter Jane to Harold Thomas son of Mr and Mrs George Thomas of Prospect. The ceremony was held Saturday night at the Baptist Church by Rev O M Lasley. Attendants were Ruth Griffith and David Miller. The couple graduated Prospect High School in 1937. Harold Thomas worked at the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation in Columbus. Jane Griffith is a niece of the Grahams.

Mary Morris Husband Tent Elects Officers

Mary Morris Husband Tent 97 held its regular meeting in the Legion Home with Grace Temple presiding. Sixteen members attended as officers for the coming year were elected: Margaret Blake president Hazel Fry junior vice president Mary Lilley chaplain Lillie Burbaugh treasurer Grace Temple and Florence Davis council members Estella Sloop patriotic instructor.
