Demonstration Clubs Christmas Meeting December 6

The Home Demonstration Christmas meeting is set for Tuesday December 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Richwood Baptist Church with a 9:30 10:00 coffee hour. Anne Clark will show slides on Ireland 1955 and workshops cover poinsettias tree decorations candle making and cake decorating.

Religious School Sessions Conclude In Union County

The Union County Ohio Council of Churches annual religious school finished after seven Monday sessions. About thirty churches participated with attendees from Richwood First Methodist and local Baptist Churches. Speakers included Dr. Charles Hill of Wilberforce University and Dr. John Schmidt of Indianola Lutheran Church Columbus. New president elected was Herbert Coons of Byhalia.

Shower Honors Miss Matlack Before Her Marion Wedding

A miscellaneous shower for Miss Meredythe Matlack bride elect of John W. McDaniel of Marion was held at Sara Cheney’s home on Friday evening. Twenty two guests enjoyed a skit and contests, gifts were exchanged, and colorful red and green refreshments were served with a three tier cake. Out of town guests included Mrs. M L McDaniel and others from Marion and Columbus. Hostesses and attendees from the community assisted in the event. Mr and Mrs Treese will winter in Georgetown Florida.

Tragic Choking Death of Clyborn Child in Mt Victory

Jeffery Wayne Clyborn two year old of Route 1 Mt Victory Ohio died from choking on a corn grain last Saturday in the office of Dr Robert G Distelhorst The autopsy showed grain lodged in the lower windpipe despite artificial respiration and resuscitation by the doctor and Richwood Fire Department Funeral services were held Tuesday at Grace Chapel Methodist Church with burial in Byhalia cemetery The boy left surviving parents three brothers grandparents and other relatives

Mt Carmel OES Plans Christmas Party for Dec 13

Initiatory work was shown at the Mt Carmel Chapter O E S meeting with Worthy Matron Mary Fry and Worthy Patron Ben Fry presiding. The next gathering, December 13, will include a Christmas party after the regular session. Members are asked to bring Christmas cookies or candies. Richwood Nuptials Unites Shirley Southard and Justin Grooms

Miss Shirley Ann Southard and Justin N. Grooms wed at Richwood First Methodist Church on November 20 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Leonard Mann and Rev. Taylor Roth officiating. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kelson Southard, wore an Italian silk gown and carried a white Bible with orchids, as attendee bouquets and gown colors highlighted purple, teal, and Alpine rose. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert O. Grooms, is a 1955 Ohio State graduate and Army officer. They will reside in Fort Eustis, Virginia, with a reception for 250 guests following.

Bloodmobile visits Richwood Legion Hall December 1

Red Cross Bloodmobile returns to Richwood at the American Legion Hall from noon to 6 p m on Thursday December 1 with a 150 pint county quota. Local chair Chuck Adams notes only one Richwood visit this year but other communities failed to set up blood drives. A Richwood survey showed hospitals in Columbus Delaware Marion Kenton Marysville and Bellefontaine use more blood than given.

Harold E Hoffman Elected President Of Hereford Association

Harold E Hoffman of Richwood Route 3 was elected president at the Miami Valley Hereford Association meeting held in Springfield last Wednesday. Robert Gresser of Clark County was chosen vice president and Joe E Deppner of Yellow Springs was elected secretary and treasurer. The group comprises Hereford breeders from Clark Montgomery Union Champaign and Green counties.

Tigers Open Season With 89-71 Win Over Darby

The Richwood Tigers beat Darby 89 to 71 on the loser’s floor in a season opener. After a tentative first half Richwood surged with 58 points in the second half and dominated. Forty-nine fouls were called on both sides plus 110 free throws attempted. Richwood hit 27 of 48 and Darby 37 of 62.

Richwood Council Sees Police Officer Resignations and Appointments

At a Monday night Richwood Village Council meeting Mayor Blue announced the resignation of Police Officer Chester A. Henry to join Marion Training School. William Fausnaugh was named as his replacement. The mayor also noted floor funding from Richwood schools and Lions Club for the Ground Observer tower. An emergency ordinance allowed a three year fire protection contract with York township, starting December 1. The council will study a reciprocal fire contract with Marysville. Several members were absent and Mrs. Nelson Blue returned from surgery in San Antonio hospital in Kenton.

Pre Campaign Meeting of Union County Polio Foundation

The Union County Polio Foundation met at the Turners home in Richwood on November 22 1955 to plan for the January March of Dimes drive. H F Pat Pasni Ohio director represented Bob Feller as 1956 campaign chairman and urged continued support as vaccines improve. The group noted about 7 million children received free vaccine this year but many still lack access and braces and therapy are needed. Treasurer Mrs Turner reported over 10000 in outstanding Union County polio care bills with local funds fully used. Local costs for one Union County child exceeded 7700 in the past year and the January drive aims to erase these obligations and fund 1956 treatment.

S. D. Day Observed Here Cites Pedestrian Safety

S. D. Day observed in Richwood led by director Mr. Pence who urged safe walking and driving to cut pedestrian deaths. He warned against jaywalking and crossing behind parked cars while praising school safety patrols numbering over 500 000 and safety education programs as key factors reducing child deaths.

Hoffmans Honored on 45th Wedding Anniversary

Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoffman were celebrated at a family dinner hosted by the White and Hoffman families. Attendees included many relatives and friends from Essex and Columbus, with a three tier cake and gifts. The event also marked Jesse L. Roberts’ 42nd anniversary.
