The postal department urges cooperation in preparing Christmas cards and parcels for mailing. Guidance covers postage prepayment, card handling, air mail rates, special delivery, packing, addressing, wrapping, weight and size limits, and avoiding glittery decorations to ensure timely delivery.
The K T B Club of the First Baptist church moves its meet time to Saturday at 4 p m for three weeks from Sunday. Ages 11 to 15 enjoy games including shuffleboard table tennis carom board and checkers plus a TV program. Bible discussion is part of each meeting. contact Miss Bonnie Hayes the president.
Mr and Mrs R B Dildine hosted turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day with children and spouses present including Paul Dildine Harold Dildine Billie Dildine and families from Ray mond and Broadway Harriett and Margaret Dildine Gene Harriett. Santa Claus coming to Richwood City Hall teased in the paper Friendly class of the First Methodist Church will meet December 7 at Mrs Bertha sos home with good attendance expected
Farm Bureau Council No. 14 met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Matteson on Friday night. Officers elected for the coming year include President Matt Pacha Vice President D B Shaup discussion leader Bern Gray secretary Burnetta VanZant treasurer Wilma Treese and county committee representative Margaret Matteson.
Rehearsals start this week for the Union County Music Festival to be held in the Marysville high school auditorium on December 15. Music teachers have prepared pupils from Marysville and county schools for combined practice. The festival, held for twenty years except during wartime, showcases cooperative non competitive performances to a public audience.
The annual Religious Education drive is in progress as solicitors finish territories and plan to meet this Sunday at 3 pm in the First Methodist church basement to report and turn in proceeds. Rev. Robert Turner thanks the Layman's Committee and others for help, and credits the Church of Christ and First Methodist Church for use of buildings.
The Cub Scouts gathered at First Methodist Church on Monday evening with 88 attendees including boys parents sisters and friends. A Thanksgiving Pantomime was presented and refreshments were served as part of the program.
Richwood merchants showcase large distinct Christmas merchandise lines with prices lower than big cities. VFW Post members decorated streets and placed an evergreen tree at the City building for upcoming Christmas exercises funded by VFW Auxiliary and local merchants. Colored lights lit Tuesday night and Santa Claus will visit Richwood soon with details to follow.
The Baptist Church families and guests will meet in the church parlors Friday at seven thirty for fellowship and a venison supper. Deacon Frank McDaniel returns from hunting with meat to share, while Mrs Goldie Perkins leads supper as president of the Ladies Aid groups.
Wayne Dilger assistant fire chief urges residents not to call the fire number 2222 after alarms. He warns calls hinder the fire department from locating fires and urges community cooperation for public welfare.
Richwood high school opened the season with wins over Darby 50 to 7 and Caledonia 36 to 9. The Tigers led with a strong first period both games and showed improved defense and ball handling in the opening two victories.
Fred J. and Mrs. Chiesa announce the engagement of their daughter Lena to Robert L. Milligan. Lena, a Richwood High School graduate and music teacher in Fort Wayne, will wed December 26 at Saint Marys Catholic Church in Marion Ohio. Bob, also a Richwood graduate, studies mortuary science in Cleveland.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Cupp and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ritchie and son Garry of Lorain joined Mr. and Mrs. James Hedges for Thanksgiving dinner. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bonnette and son of Delaware and Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Brown for afternoon calls.
The Band Parents Organization hosted a 50-50 dance on Saturday November 26 with the high school band led by Mr. Fogt. Ernie LaVan and Mr. Wickersham directed square dances while band mothers sold refreshments chaired by Mrs. Sturgis Cheney. Proceeds benefit the band and future projects are planned inviting active parent participation.
American Legion Auxiliary met November 23 with Past President Dorothy Bixler presiding. They voted for a December 10 bake sale at Marion Winter’s. Phyllis Stalder to chair and seek donations. The group sponsored the play Take Your Medicine with the VFW Auxiliary for Post 4654. Seventy-eight members and families attended the Armistice Day turkey supper. three new members were welcomed.
Miss Genevieve Johnston a bride elect was honored at a miscellaneous shower last Saturday evening at Mrs. Margaret Moyer home with Mrs. Eula Jean Davis assisting. Seventeen guests attended including out of town guests Mrs. George Bonan and daughter of Bucyrus and Mrs. T. A. Johnston and Mrs. Joe Schmelker of Galion. Johnston received many lovely gifts and lunch was served.
The Richwood I O O F lodge met with large attendance and closed nominations. Officers will be elected at the next meeting on December 5. The entertainment committee announced the December 5 family night with a pot-luck supper and invites Rebekahs and friends to attend.
Mr and Mrs J T Reed hosted guests from Richwood Columbus and Delaware for Thanksgiving dinner including Harold Reed and family Judy Maude Cassiday Ray mond Bumgarner Helen McBride and others The VFW Auxiliary plans a meeting on December 7 with a Christmas party on December 21 to be announced later
The Legion Home expansion is nearing finish after a brief halt. A working party is planned for Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, with guidance to all members to assist. The Auxiliary to Baccarat Post No. 40 hosted a pot-luck for seventeen workers and will provide meals again on December 6, as weather remains favorable for indoor work.
Emma Axton age 84 of Marysville died at Jane Case hospital Delaware on Tuesday after being struck by Gwynn Sanders Marysville attorney on Marysville streets. She walked into the path of the car while waiting for a southbound vehicle to pass near her home. Sanders was driving slowly and was exonerated. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 pm at Lee Funeral Home Marysville with burial in Price Cemetery north of Essex.
Mr. and Mrs. George L. Stults hosted Thanksgiving Day guests including Alfred Shirk of Broadview, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Gabriel, and Delaware residents Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Smart and their children plus Suzanne and Janis Lee.
Mrs Jennie Grindell and daughter Valera hosted a Sunday dinner in honor of Mrs Maude Cassiday of Columbus. Attending were Mrs Emma Reed, Mr and Mrs Robert Norris and son Clair, Mr and Mrs Dwight Norris, Mr and Mrs William Durban and son Irvin, Mr and Mrs Gerald Wheeler and sons Edwin Russell and Donnie.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Cramer and daughter Joan hosted a family dinner Sunday with guests including Clarence Shoup and children, Edna Sue, Mrs. M. Shriver Marjorie Staley of Marysville, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ridge and daughters.
Claiborne Rebekah Lodge No 1 met on November 15 with Noble G Hazel Ellenwood presiding. Final nomination of officers was held and one candidate was elected. Refreshments were served.
