Musical program at Baptist Church

Next Sunday evening December 4 the Baptist choir led by Mrs H C LeMasters will present an organ and piano duet choruses quartettes duets and solos. The twenty member choir invites attendance.

Class Enjoys Social Evening at Benton Home

The Young Married Women s Bible class of the M. E. church met for their November gathering at Mrs L E Benton s home with teacher Mrs Bertha Bolenbaugh. Assistant hostesses were Mrs Lucille Davis Mrs Ralph Wood and Mrs Kenneth Richards. A short program followed by a social hour and refreshments.

Bridge Club Meets for Friday Afternoon Games

The Eight-at-One Bridge Club gathered at Mrs. George Hunt Jr. home. Mrs. Marion Cameron won first prize and Mrs. Paul Brelsford took second. The next meeting is set for December 9 at Mrs. Brelsford’s home.

Bright's Disease Claims Lady Hendrix in Summersville

A four week illness of Bright's disease ended the life of Mrs. Julia A Hendrix 81 on Thanksgiving Day November 24 at her Summersville home. Born July 20 1857 in Franklin county she was daughter of Henry and Mary Roby. Survived by three children and eleven grandchildren, funeral in Summersville Friends church officiated by Rev Green with interment at York Cemetery.

Mrs Yarrington Surprised by S S Class Visit

Naomi Yarrington was pleasantly surprised at her Beatty Avenue home on Tuesday afternoon November 29 when the Reserve Class of the M P Sunday school gathered there. They then visited Mrs Yarrington and spent the afternoon packing a box of gifts for the M P orphanage at High Point North Carolina.

The King's Daughters of Richwood request discarded wearable clothing for the community's needy. All types are welcome, with emphasis on children's school ages. Bring contributions to the city building council room Friday or Saturday 9–11 am or 2–4 pm, or notify a member to arrange pickup.

Marion Civic Orchestra Opens Fifth Season With Concert

Marion Civic Orchestra opens its fifth season directed by Abram Ruwinsky. First concert on December 6 at First Presbyterian Church features Mildred Dennison of Chicago as guest soloist. Second concert February 28, 1939 with John MacDonald of the Chicago Opera Co. Third concert April 25, 1939 with Walberg Brown as guest soloist.

The RE Y P A held a party at Mrs Emma Snyder’s home Tuesday night after a regular meeting on Friendship led by Grayton Moore and Rev and Mrs Sizemore. A social hour followed with games and refreshments. All attendees are invited to the church meeting next Tuesday night.

Amateur Contest and Cake Walk Spon sored by Dorea Society

The Doreas Society of McKendree church York Center sponsors an amateur contest followed by a cake walk on Saturday December 3 at 8 p m in the township hall. Divisions are 6 and under 6 12 12 18 and adults with first prizes of 1.00 and second prizes 50 cents in each group. Additional prizes and door prizes will be awarded. The Lost Doll Operetta at Richwood Grade School

Richwood grade school presents The Lost Doll operetta on December 6 and 7 at 8:00 p m in Union Theatre. A cast of 269 children, with school orchestra and rhythm bands, perform under Dorothy Lovett with Supt. R C Redard supervising. Proceeds fund equipment. last year financed a motion picture projector and instruments for the rhythm band. Tickets sold by performers. a room with most tickets wins a picture.

Mr and Mrs William Stahl Injured In Auto Accident

Mr and Mrs William Stahl of rear Byhalia were injured in a late week auto collision on State Route 31 near Mt Victory. Mr Stahl suffered a skull fracture and was hospitalized at Antonio Hospital in Kenton with his wife, who sustained lesser injuries.

Indianola Choir to Sing at First Methodist Sunday

The Indianola Presbyterian choir of Columbus will present worship music at First Methodist Church Sunday evening at 7 30. The Woman's Relief Corps entertained the Daughters of Veterans and Legion Auxiliary Tuesday night in the G A R hall. The conductor presented presidents, followed by an accordion duet, vocal duets, readings, and an original poem Veterans. A pot luck dinner and social hour closed a pleasant evening.

George W. Hamilton, Union County Commissioner, questions the $1320 to $1515 yearly clerk salaries and calls for a 1939 limit of wives’ salaries to $100.60 per month. He cites 1938 figures showing higher current costs and notes opposition to Mrs. Morris’s $1320 paid by the clerk.

Mr and Mrs David Neal celebrate their fifty fifth wedding anniversary at their West Ottawa Street home. Seventy two relatives and friends from Marion Ridgeway Ostrander Marysville Pharisburg and Richwood attend. Mr Neal is a retired mail carrier aged 77 and Mrs Neal 73.

Death Claims Ralph Doebert

Ralph Doebert a 55 year old laborer of Clairborne died Monday at 9 30 am in St Francis hospital Columbus following a brief illness. He was born November 9 1883 and is survived by four children and three sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 30 in the Claiborne M P church with interment at Maskill cemetery conducted by Lloyd Winter and Son.

Surprise Pastors Honored By Church Family In Maine

Members of the M. P. church surprised Rev and Mrs B F McKinnon Monday evening at the parsonage. A program of duets recitations and readings plus games followed. Miss Chiesa played an accordion solo and a piano piece. Short talks were given and Rev Hughes spoke of renewed friendship. Benediction ended the gathering with a feast including a preacher’s delight chicken.
