Village council approves adding a full time police officer at 3.50 per hour with benefits to address peace disturbances. New hire to start within two weeks, easing load on current staff and aiding night and weekend coverage.
Union Landmark-Richwood Branch grain merchandising manager John Leeper will retire after 36 years with the company and plan a western motor trip with his wife Eline. A Union County native, Leeper has held roles from milk route operator to Richwood branch manager and general Marysville office head, witnessing many industry changes. He recalls company growth from 125000 to over 12 million in annual volume and looks forward to lawn work gardening and golf in retirement while cherishing longtime colleagues and friends.
The Richwood Independent Agricultural Society plans a bigger fair Aug 31 to Sept 4 with track and grandstand upgrades, new goat show, and expanded exhibits. Goers may enter by Aug 26 and flower show by Aug 30 while food offerings include lasagna and a Saturday pork chop dinner.
The Marion County Democratic Club Ox Roast in Kennedy Park features Anthony J. Celebreeze Jr seeking his first term as Secretary of State. County candidates John Isler Bruce Lichtenberger Thomas Stepanovasky and James E. Vines appear along with local party chairs Mary Ellen Withrow and Merle J. Thomas. Tickets are sold by Democratic leaders and at the door.

Brown as speaker at a meeting on Monday August 21 in the Union County Courthouse Commissioners room in Marysville starting at 8 p.m. Officers will be elected and delegates John Woerner Joe Bell and Kermit Morse will report on the Cincinnati State Convention. The event is open to the public and will include a social hour.
City leaders announced residents would no longer pay monthly garbage collection charges, stating the large city budget enough to cover the service. The move affects households citywide and shifts funding sources for sanitation programs.
