Wise's IGA Mkt Robbery Among Largest In Years

The Wise's IGA Market suffered a loss between $6,000 and $6,500 after burglars broke in last Sunday morning and took a 100 lb safe with cash and checks. Four registers were damaged. fingerprints were not found. Police and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated. no leads. Manager Jeff Wise urged anyone who cashed or wrote checks Saturday to contact him.

Local Gridders Begin Practice Aug 16

First call for local football players is for physical examinations Thursday August 15 at 7 p.m. at the high school. Official practice starts Friday August 16 with two-a-day sessions 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. All weekdays have two sessions and Saturday one for a three week prep before the first game.

Richwood Lanes Hit By Robbers Again

Robbers burglarized Richwood Lanes on August 1 stealing about $12.70. They forced a rear door with a wrecking bar and exited through a west door unlocked from inside. Harold Davis of Hilliards runs the lanes. Union County Sheriff's Office investigates with fingerprints collected. This marks a second robbery at the site in the past year.

Sharpshooter Webb Wins Top Honors at Local Range Match

Tsgt John A. Webb son of Mrs Florence E Webb of Richwood led in time-firing rapid fire and centerfire events, taking first in 38 and 45 cal combined and first in 22 cal national match course. He finished third in the grand sharpshooter aggregate at the five state event sanctioned by the NRA.

Auto Accident injures three Wilson girls near Richwood

Three daughters of Mr and Mrs Sherman Wilson were injured Wednesday at about 8 30 am when Dianne Wilson lost control of a car on Route 37 two miles north of Richwood. Dianne had head and facial injuries and a severe chin cut while Doreen sustained a broken arm and facial cuts. Dill escaped injury. All three were taken to Marion General Hospital by Winter-Cheney ambulance.

Stolen Automobile Recovered In Marion

A 1959 Chevrolet stolen from Vernon Thomas Chevrolet on North Franklin St. after 11 p.m. was recovered in Marion by the Marion Police Dept. Monday morning. A Kennedy Motors car in Marion was recovered by Richwood police Sunday at Richwood Lake. A Richwood juvenile later confessed to five auto thefts including the Kennedy theft, implicating a Marion juvenile.

Richwood Lions Club Plans Upcoming Events

Richwood Lions Club met August 1 at 7 pm with Mrs. Davis and Co. serving a dinner. Guest Arlie Webb was introduced by Lion Ballard. A report on the Richwood Fair project outlined for August 17 at Marysville chicken barbecue. Judge Gwynn Sanders spoke on "A Day In Court" about societal problems caused by undesirables. Next meeting August 15 will feature psychiatrist Jack Straubling from Marysville Women’s Reformatory. A home talent show was approved for early next year.

Little League Wins Tournament at Byhalia

The Little League team clinched the championship in a 7-6 comeback over Alger in the final at Byhalia after a late homer by Phil Stidham. Craig Algower earned the win with 3 hits allowed and 3 strikeouts, as Richwood had a first-round bye and later beat Alger 10-0 behind a shutout by Algower.

Flower Show At Prospect K of P Draws Crowd

Nearly 500 visitors attended Prospect Garden Clubs annual flower show at the K of P Hall with 126 artistic arrangements on display. Judges awarded sweepstakes to Mrs. Raymond Smith. Captain Dorance D Perkins of Richwood completed the United States Air Force Squadron Officer School at Air University Maxwell AFB Alabama on August 2. Juvenile would be robbers are caught

Four juveniles aged 8 9 and 10 were caught entering Sieg's Drug Store Monday night by Bert Ballinger who works at the rear of the store. One boy hid in the store at closing and opened the door for the others. No charges have been filed yet.
