North Union Wildcats Announce 1978 Football Practice Dates

Mike Wallace head coach of the North Union Wildcats lists dates for prospective players. Equipment issue on Tuesday August 8 with time slots for returning lettermen and classes. First regular practice Wednesday August 9. Team photo Saturday August 12 at 2 p.m. Parents may photo the team too.

NU Athletes Must Submit Medical Cards For 1978-79

Reminder to North Union athletes planning to participate in the 1978-79 program to obtain and complete a medical information card at the high school office between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. before physical examinations. Bring the completed card to the physical in the high school cafeteria and provide a urine specimen. Boys’ physicals are Monday August 7 and girls’ are Tuesday August 8.

Track Fencing and Improvements on NUAC Agenda

NUAC board meets to plan track construction fencing costs and updating the football field concession building at the high school athletic complex. They adjourn to a special session Thursday night August 3 at 8 pm with Athletic Boosters officers, then to Don Krawczyk’s home.

Radnor Central Office Gets 77,000 Ft Cable Add

General Telephone Co of Ohio announced two major projects in Radnor. John L. Anderson said 77000 feet of extra cable will expand private or low party lines in 90 percent of the exchange. The Radnor central office addition progresses, with testing set for Oct 15 and numbers changing to 595-3xxx. General Telephone serves 278 Radnor customers.

Police Investigate Monday Accident in Richwood

Richwood police continue inquiry into an accident reported at 5 35 p m on Monday July 31. No injuries were reported and one car sustained moderate damage as investigators review the scene.

Byhalia Shooting Leaves Man Hospitalized and Suspect Jailed

Thomas Weller of 31101 St Rt 31 is jailed in Union County on 25000 bond charged with attempted aggravated murder kidnapping and felonious assault after a Byhalia shooting on July 28. Weller faced a preliminary hearing in Municipal Court and remains jailed with next hearing set for August 3. William Sarver 18 of Broadway was shot in the stomach during a domestic argument at Kevin Jerew’s Byhalia home.

Stingy tax cut bill Moves to floor before August recess

The House Ways and Means Committee approved a tax cut bill giving 16 billion dollars in relief, less than Republicans want. It includes capital gains indexing to offset inflation and three other capital gains changes. The bill also adjusts brackets and deductions, while Republicans seek a broader 10 percent cut and indexing.

Lions Club Ox Roast Set With Food Fun and Bingo

Mt Victory Lions plan their annual ox roast at Indian Summer Sportsmen Building on Aug 4 to 6. 400 pounds beef roasts 16 to 18 hours, serving at 4 30 p m. Meals include baked beans potato salad cole slaw and pies. Bingo at 6 30 p m adds evening entertainment. Proceeds fund eyeglasses scholarships Buckeye State sponsorships and other community projects.

Thefts Reported in Byhalia Area Detected

Two thefts in Byhalia appear in Union County records. A 10 speed bicycle worth 100 dollars was taken after midnight from Lynn H. Jolliff's residence. Nearby, a lawn mower valued at 200 dollars and a 50 dollar tent were stolen Tuesday night from James H. Coon at 30997 State Route 31.

Visiting Corps Housed In New York School District

Corps personnel plan to participate in the U S Open in Marion this weekend and stay in North Union School district. They will be chaperoned by Boosters Association volunteers, with housing at Jackson Elementary, North Union Senior High, and Byhalia-York Elementary for Imperial Regiment, Black Watch, and Barons of Steuder from New York.

Negotiations Fail for Union Rural Electric Strike

IBEW Local 2359 members at Union Rural Electric Cooperative in Marysville began a strike at midnight July 31 1978 after wage increase talks broke down. Five negotiating sessions were held with no agreement and no further talks scheduled. Staff and management will maintain 24 hour emergency service to customers.
