Special Session Grand Jury Called in Union County

Advisory Council Picnic at Prospect Park Shelter

The ninth Advisory Council enjoyed a picnic supper on July 28 at the Prospect Park shelter house. Mrs. Giles McDaniel won the grand prize. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Paul Speyer, Mr. and Mrs. William Russel, and others. The next meeting is planned for the last Friday night in August at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shearer.

Street Dances All This Month in Richwood

The Richwood Lions Club sponsors Thursday night street dances on the public square during August. The first dance July 18 attracted a large crowd. no dance last week due to a fair grounds program. Proceeds support Lions Club charity work in the community.

Forty seven rams sold at Union County Ram Sale

Forty seven purebred rams were sold at the Union County fair grounds in Marysville Ohio on Saturday July 27. Top ram a Southdown yearling brought 75 dollars. A Corriedale yearling sold for 72.50 and a two year old Shropshire earned 65 dollars. Nine Corriedales averaged 39.22 and seven South downs 45.14. Sale averages: Shroph shires 32.46 Corriedales 39.22 Hampshire 48.75. Overall consignment average 37.03. The event is the second Annual Co Ram Sale run by the Union County Sheep Improvement Committee to improve market lambs and the local sheep industry.

Columbus special reports John M. Hodson, Ohio State Fair director, invites citizens to the 92nd Ohio State Fair from August 24 to 30 in Columbus. He calls it more than a fair, describing an exposition of Ohio’s agricultural industrial and labor achievements and a gathering for education recreation and material benefit.

Auto Crash Fatal To Two Sunday

An auto-truck collision on Route 31 four miles north of Marysville Sunday afternoon killed Albert M. Lee 49 of Gallatin Tennessee and his sister Florine M. Lee 40 of Nashville Tennessee. Two other occupants, Mrs Ruby Lee and Mrs Arch H Wright were injured and taken to Mt Carmel Hospital Columbus. The Lee car was severely damaged and the tractor trailer was driven by George A Harris 22 of Somerset Ohio.

Beautiful Dahlia Bouquet Presented to the Editor

Mrs. Charles Mulligan who lives west of Richwood delivered a large mixed dahlia bouquet to the Gazette office on Monday. The 75 year old longtime Gazette contributor noted she has worked hard and shared blooms with friends. Miss JoAnn Kyle from Toledo visited her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Winter over the weekend.

Essex Drops to Cardington and Beats Claridon in Doubleheader

Essex lost to Cardington 11 to 7 in the first game then rebounded to beat Claridon 7 to 6 in the second game, played at Essex on Sunday. Cardington and Claridon were the opposing teams, with Essex earning a split in the doubleheader.

Richwood Residents Return From Southwestern Trip

Miss Mary Lake and her niece Miss Barbara Lake returned home Saturday after an extended Texas and Mexico tour. They were hosted by Mr and Mrs Walter Lake in El Paso and joined part of the journey. The trip included Los Alamos Santa Fe Grand Canyon Oak Creek Canyon White Sands Carlsbad Caverns and Du Roosido New Mexico.

V F W Softball Team Hosts Cooler in Doubleheader

Richwood V F W hosted Universal Cooler of Marion for a doubleheader. Cooler won the first game 4 to 2 after a late-inning rally. Richwood answered in the second, scoring four in the first inning and two more in the third. Don Steele pitched both games. Next, Richwood faces Commercial Steele of Marion at the fairground Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Former resident comes by plane to attend fair

T. J. Mulligan of Los Angeles arrived in Richwood Wednesday night to attend the fair and visit relatives. He said the Gazette notified him the fair would be the week of July 23 and he booked a plane to arrive in time. His daughter-in-law Mrs. Marion Mulligan saw him to Detroit, Michigan, then on to Canada.
