First National Horse Exhibition Opens in Springfield

The first National Exhibition of Horses opens in Springfield Massachusetts with 300 to 4000 spectators expected. Fine horses from New England and beyond compose the grounds, including Morgan and Black Hawk breeds, Shetland ponies, and the Hindostan horse Zansebar. A half mile trotting track, a judge's stand, and a 4000 seat pavilion are in place along with Wright’s tent to host banquets and speeches. Efforts to stage contests and prize money are announced, promising a lively event on the fair grounds.
