Madison tobacco growers support the Sapiro plan for cooperative marketing after a meeting where about 600 barley tobacco growers signaled assent. Over 385000 pounds were signed up with contracts to be distributed to tenants and neighbors, and a county organization meeting is set for Wednesday.
Stanford Court Day at the Nunnelley stock pens drew buyers for over 300 cattle with only a few unsold. Steers traded 5 to 6 1/2 cents, good heifers around 6 cents. Jambs and J D Whitehouse of Boyle County bought many around 8 cents. No hogs offered. Little activity in horses and mules.
Governor Morrow offers a $300 reward for the arrest of James Barker and two others linked to four killings in Elliott county last week. The county judge cites moonshiners intimidating officers and hindering arrests in the case.
Chief Justice Rollin Hurt ruled county clerks cannot take 5 percent commission plus 30 cents for issuing licenses. The injunction against Henry E. James was dissolved, ending a claim that would have cost the state road fund about 100000 this year. Magoffin county approved a 250000 road bond issue by 1200 majority.
Falmouth report notes horse drawn hearses are outdated for city funerals. An undertaker offers a lightly used hearse bought for 1800 dollars and now priced at 100 dollars to illustrate the shift to motorized services.
Louisville Elks decide that funding a Kentucky Elks Home is more valuable than attending the Los Angeles convention. They vote to apply the $11,000 raised for travel toward the home project, now projected to cost $1,225,000.

Prestonburg Wy deputy sheriff Ben Harris was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to four years for killing Kendall Moore after Moore allegedly resisted arrest for robbery. Harris testified Moore looked to draw a weapon as he walked away with hands in his shirt. The trial noted Moore's.bad reputation and prior altercations with the officer.

Washington reports that on June 15 the Attorney General advised President Harding to annul war department contracts with the United States Harness Company for surplus harness disposal. The Attorney General states the contracts violated criminal code prohibiting government employee participation and arose from a conspiracy involving a former temporary army chief.

Beattyville resident Heg dty Daugherty, 44, was struck and killed by a train at Evelyn in our county. Authorities reported the accident occurred in May, with investigations continuing.

Grand Rapids Mich June 14 Major Embry completed a course at Fort Sheridan in 1919 and sailed for France with the first group of Americans. He served in the first brigade of the First Division and took part in key battles at Cantigny St Mihiel and the Meuse Argonne offensives.

Louisville and Nashville Railroad reduces shipments of stone sand and gravel for road building by about 25 percent retroactive to January 1 1921. State highway engineer Joe S Boggs says the measure will save roughly 50000 annually with benefits flowing to counties and cities via the highway commission. Rates vary by distance from ten miles to 150 miles with per ton charges from six tenths to one dollar and forty cents.
Covington Ky June 15 police said they had no clue to the thieves who held up guards of two car trucks near Covington last night. Armed men in four cars seized the trucks and 500 cases of whisky valued at 50000 dollars on the route from Frankfort to New York.
Kentucky Superintendent George Colvin announced the Leslie county teachers examination in Hyden May 20 and 21 was invalidated after affidavits said all participants received help and examiners assisted. He ordered a fresh test and removed the existing papers, as similar actions followed in Anderson and Taylor counties.

The Associated Press reports a new patronage clash involving President Harding Secretary Hoover and Senator Lodge as Julius Klein of Boston is nominated to direct the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce. Lodge seeks postponement of Senate Commerce Committee action pending inquiry.
Talks in Washington focus on a possible break between President Harding and Senator Willis over Charles E. Nauts of Toledo for Internal Revenue Collector at Toledo. The White House treats the matter as closed, with nomination sent, while Willis objects to Nauts personally. the case moves to the Senate Finance Committee.
Rear Admiral Sims left London for the United States in a car packed with flowers. He spent half an hour greeting friends before a large send off. He said he had nothing further to say and nothing to retract and had received hundreds of letters approving his stance on American hyphenates.
