Rioting erupts in Tulsa as hundreds of armed whites clash with black residents and a large fire destroys a major portion of the city’s negro district. State troops seize hundreds, martial law extends over Tulsa County while casualties mount and fires rage.
The grand jury indicted Harry Lewis ton alias Stratton and John Leech, held in Detroit, for swindling W P Williams of Bluefields W Va out of 25000 dollars on a fake horse race in Louisville on May 8.
A local National Guard unit and the Wagoner company near here were ordered today to proceed to Tulsa Oklahoma for duty. The June 1 directive mobilizes militiamen for regional security duties.

Washington June 1 The House Judiciary Committee agreed to report out the Volstead bill prohibiting sale of beer on physician prescriptions for use by the sick. The bill would extend the Volstead Act to Hawaii and the Virgin Islands but exclude the Philippines. It tightens importation limits until government stock is exhausted.

Prestonburg Kentucky June 1 Judge Jerry Hager and Town Marshal S A Collins of Weeksburg were given 21 years for the killing of Gerard Richmond a B and O bridge guard. Richmond was shot five times in the back during an attempted arrest last October with no eye witnesses. Both sides offered prior threats as part of their case. A new trial was requested.
