Leslie P. Evans mayor of Richmond died at 3 30 am in Good Samaritan Hospital after a four year term marked by city modernization and street paving. He was 44, survived by wife Laura Lynn and five children Nannie Leslie Jr Marie Lynn Richard and George. funeral at First Baptist Church Tuesday at 3 pm with deacon’s long service noted. The city hall draped in mourning. many businesses planned to close for the service.

Leslie P. Evans Richmond mayoral candidate died at Geol Samaritan Hospital at 3 30 am after his condition worsened from heart trouble. He had learned Saturday night of renomination and expressed pride in the nomination and friends. Evans had been in Lexington since July 22 and was conscious until moments before death. The body was sent to Richmond.

Deputies raided the David D. Wise Carnival Saturday night after warrants by County Attorney R C Oldham charging gambling and breach of the peace. Several members jailed then pled guilty with fines from 10 dollars plus costs. Three charged with gaming, one with suffering gaming and 25 breach of the peace. Two and a half loads of gambling paraphernalia seized. The show had stayed several days and may leave for Irvine at once.

Former Richmond GI Dies in Cincinnati
Mrs Corbett Hopper died in Cincinnati early this morning after a several weeks illness from typhoid fever at age 20. She was formerly Hattie Tankersly of Richmond and is survived by husband Corbett Hopper, one child, father, Henry Tankersly, two sisters Mrs Albert Sandlin and Miss Iva Tankersly. The body will return to Richmond Tuesday afternoon for services at Calvary Baptist Church Wednesday at 3 PM conducted by Rev L A Byrd. Interment will be in Richmond cemetery.
