Fifty years ago Ashland boys arrived by morning train on Thanksgiving Day to play a football match. The Ashland players scored first, the locals enjoyed a late dinner, and the game devolved into gymnastic chaos on a spikeless field. The frame ended with the visitors ahead as the locals faced a rugged challenge.

New German Prof Pleased With College
Professor Ahrens joins the University of Richmond Department of Germany praising the college. He studied at Waterloo College Ontario and earned his MA from Columbia in 1980, later teaching at Maine and Columbia while translating Conrad Pelicanes’s autobiography. He toured Europe in 1981 and 1982 visiting Berlin and Heidelberg. He notes Germany’s intellectual decline and exiled thinkers alongside welcome foreign students.
