Freshman Class Tours City with Governor Battle Honor

Freshman Class of 1956 toured Richmond with a police escorted bus procession. Governor John Battle and Mayor Edward Haddock welcomed the group in the capitol rotunda calling UR fine. The event promoted by Tom Pollard and supported by twelve campus fraternities.

Moran Represents YWCA At Atlanta Regional Meeting

Pat Moran representing the Westhampton College Young Women's Christian Association left for Atlanta to attend a YMCA YWCA Southern Regional Council meeting at Atlanta University. The regional conference covers ten states from Mississippi to Virginia and will last three days with discussions on programs and policies for student YMCA and YWCA in the Southern Territory.

Lt Col Thomas J. Clark appointed Professor of Air Science and Tactics for AFROTC at the University of Richmond. World War II veteran with two and a half years overseas service. He flew P-40s with the Fourteenth Air Force in China and earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart after a daring escape from Chinese territories.

YMCA Kick-off Meet Invites New University of Richmond Students

About 50 new students are slated to join the University of Richmond YMCA Cabinet at a 6 p.m. kick-off in Central YMCA Richmond. Speakers include four commission chairmen, President Mac Shotwell, and B. Jacobsen. A bus will return to campus after the 6 p.m. meeting, with the program beginning at 7 30.

Amendment to create a student house at Richmond College

In a senate meeting Ward Harkrader proposed a constitutional amendment to establish a house of representatives for campus organizations at Richmond College. The house would sit under the Senate as a deliberative body with one representative per organization and a full text to follow.

Election in Business School October 7 for class officers

An election will occur in the Business School on October 7 to choose class officers for the junior and senior classes. Junior class senators will also be elected. All nomina tions must be turned in to SG President Jim Frye by next Tuesday September 30.

BS Reception To Be Held This Evening

Tonight at eight o clock in the Lounge of the Student Alumni Building the School of Business Administration hosts a major social event with about 180 attendees. Dr. George M. Modlin president of the University will be the guest of honor as music and entertainment, including the University quartet, are planned to help faculty and students mingle and a possible annual tradition for the Business School.

Gary Reveals Plans of U. of A. Players

University Players plan to open with Shakespeare’s As You Like It on October 10 as the year’s first production. President Vaughn Gary anticipates a busy season with at least one more show likely The Lady’s Not For Burning. A new dramatic building behind the chapel will seat about 100 and serve as a workshop with dressing rooms planned.

Westhampton Seniors See Mexico as Land of Music and Romance

Westhampton seniors Martha Clark and Ruby Vaughan return from Sartillo Mexico praising the country as in the movies. The Spanish majors studied at La Escuela Normal and La Escuela Inter- American de Verano learning through classes on folklore and customs while living with Mexican families.
