Richmond College Honor Council Opens Year With Hope

The Richmond College Honor Council begins its official year with aims to strengthen the Honor System. President A D Singleton says the eight member body protects student interests and reminds the university the system is a privilege. The council clarifies it is a protective representative body not a police force and emphasizes personal responsibility under the Flowor System.

Players Plan Dual Tryouts for University Productions

September 27 at 3 p m the Playhouse hosts dual auditions for two University Players productions. Cuckoos on the Flearth a murder mystery comedy directed by Professor Alton D Williams needs five women and seven men. Pursuit of Happiness a musical adaptation directed by Professor William Manes opens auditions to all campus students for acting and technical roles.

Sophomore Group Plans Enforcing Freshman Rules

Wes Brown head of the Sophomore class says a Vigilance Committee will be appointed early next week to ensure freshmen follow the 1948 Spider Handbook rules. The all sophomores panel will enforce measures including attire and athlete conduct, though the how tie rule will not be enforced.

Literary Societies Will Meet Monday

The university’s three literary societies plan meetings Monday with S. C. Mitchell in Biology Building Room 110 at 12 40 p.m. Philologians meet at 7 p.m. in Room R of the Administration Building and Mu Sigma Rho gathers at 7 30 p.m. at the YMCA Building. Students are invited to attend any meeting.

Faculty Advisors Named for 1949 Web Issue

Richmond College and Westhampton College appoint Dr. Millard K Bushane Professor Lawrence A Wood and Mrs Kath levine J Riegger as faculty advisors to assist the student staff in the 1949 Web publication. Bushane is noted for a Confederate General Jubal Early biography and prior publishing work in high school and college.

University Greets 16 New Faculty Members This Semester

The university announces sixteen new faculty joining this semester as classes begin. New leaders include Professor Fred M. Denker taking the Music Department chair and visiting mathematics lecturer Dr B Pascoe Sleight. Seven assistant professors join, led by Austin B Grigg and others in psychology physics history and languages.

Freshmen Arrive As World War II Veterans Outnumber Them

About 400 freshmen enroll at the University of Richmond for the 1951 class, boosting total enrollment to around 10000. The class is expected to be roughly 60 percent veterans, with non veterans making up the rest. Dean Gray projects the university’s peak enrollment has already been reached and will settle slightly above prewar levels. The average age of this class is about 19, compared with 20 in 1947 and 22 in 1946. Some registered students who fail to show will lose a 25 deposit.

Richmond College to host Virginia Colleges Congress fall session

Richmond College will host the Student Congress of Virginia Colleges and Universities on October 8 and 9. Stuart Massie announces invitations sent to eleven state colleges, with nine represented at the spring session last May at Randolph-Macon College. Morton Marks named secretary treasurer to fill an unexpired term.
