University of Richmond to Install Wireless Telegraphy Station

Reports indicate the campus plans a wireless station in the science building to send and receive messages linking to Washington Baltimore Chicago and New York. The unit will support market news for the Farmer's Cooperative Marketing Bureau but no instructional course is planned.

Miss Browns Dramatic Course Reopens At Westhampton

The English speech department at Westhampton is reinstalled under Miss Emily Brown after a multi year absence. The course focuses on personality development, enunciation, pronunciation, voice and poise. Drama study will follow with each student acting in a production. Miss Brown, famed for coaching the Green Stockings, becomes the official dramatic coach. A committee is selecting a play for the Dramatic Clubs to begin work on soon.

Spiders Open 1921 Season With 14 0 Victory Over Catholic University

Coach Frank Dobson's Spiders beat Catholic University 14 to 0 on Stadium Field in the season opener. Jones and Snead scored long touchdown runs as the lighter team used headwork and science to overcome a heavier opponent.

Prefers Teaching to Musical Pursuits

Miss Anita Kloss declined a violin scholarship from Mr. Van Hulsteyn head of the Peabody Conservatory and Symphony Orchestra to return and teach at Westhampton. A former pupil of Hugo Heerman in Geneva and trained under Henri Marteau in Zurich, she has taught French at Westhampton for three years and will resume there despite lucrative offers in Baltimore.

Charlottesville Train To Richmond Game Tomorrow

A special train departs Main Street Station at 7 25 A M for Charlottesville to attend the Virginia versus Richmond battle at Lambeth Field. Fare is 376 dollars one way with return leaving Charlottesville about 4 A M arriving Richmond around 8 A M. Students urged to ride for support and lower costs.

Chapel Attendance Sets Historic High

Attendance at chapel for the first two days under the new Student Government System was the largest in history. The auditorium was full with many standing, and seating lists posted by the Dean's office proved incorrect as Dr. Prince found more students than seats on each row.

Today and tonight schedule lists Spider Scrubs versus Fork Union at Mork Union at 8 PM and a student reception at First Baptist Church. Also shows YMCA meetings at 7 15 PM and a Writers Club gathering at Westhampton.

Tomorrow Dobson's Gridiron Men Meet Virginia at Lam Beth Field

Coach Dobson prepares his football squad for a second 1921 meeting with the University of Virginia on Lam beth Field. The Orange and Blue appear stronger this season with most veterans back and new freshmen pushing for varsity roles. Virginia has already walloped Davidson and George Washington University, though the exact strength of those opponents is unclear.

Classics Sul Have Strong Friends Here

Dr Harris spoke to the Classical Studies Association of Westhampton Monday evening on Why We Should Study Latin. He argued Latin and Greek are alive, stressing Latin words underpin much of modern English and Latin lessons broaden the college curriculum for freshmen and new students.

Joint Program by Societies Monday at Richmond College

Richmond College literary societies the Philologian and Mu Sigma Rho plan a joint program Monday night in the men’s college auditorium. The Debates and Forensic Council curates the program with hopes of strong student turnout including Westhampton College, and sisters across the lake are expected to offer support for a successful evening.

Optional credit for literary societies at university

University committees decide to grant academic credit for work in Literary Societies. Previously no credit was given for literature and public speaking practiced at meetings. A Debating and Forensic Council set rules on credit and the plan is endorsed by university officials. Continued on page 8.
