King To Speak at Graduation Of Largest Class Since 1949

Denison University in Ohio will host commencement on June 9 at 7 30 pm in the Greek Theatre for about 300 graduates the largest class since 1949. Dr J Leonard King heads the English department and will receive a Doctor of Laws. Rev Lee Calvin Sheppard will get a Doctor of Divinity. Other honorees include Justice Harold F Snead and Elmer B West with Doctors of Laws and Divinity respectively. Eric C Rust and James L Camp Jr will receive Doctors of Letters and Science.

Closing Date Set For Federal Service Entrance Exam

The United States Civil Service Commission announces June 16, 1958 as the closing date for accepting applications for the Federal Service Entrance Examination under Announcement 25. Applications must be postmarked or filed by that date with the proper civil service office.

Richmond College Food Committee Report To Modlin

The Richmond College student food committee report requests optional purchase of meals in the college refectory. Dr. George M. Modlin will present the findings to the Board of Trustees with fall announcement and full explanation. The report is based on surveys from 19 of 38 colleges, noting food quality, outside firms, and optional meal service reducing student discontent.

Editor Seeks Applications For Positions At Col1Hotan

All students desiring to work in special departments of Col1Hotan during the 1958 59 school year must apply before May 30. Applications should be sent in writing to Christian Sizemore Box 87 University of Richmond Virginia. No appointments have been made yet and all departments are open. An editorial staff meeting will be held Sunday June 1 to consider applications.

Westhampton Honors Prillaman Juniors Freshmen in Chapel

Suzanne Prillaman, a Westhampton College senior, won two awards at Moving Up Chapel. She received the Modern Language Award for excellence in French and German and the Altrusa Award, a $100 prize given to a senior for patriotism, service and efficiency. The freshman class won the Athletic Proficiency Award. Mortar Board Cup went to the junior class. Dean Roberts cited record enrollment of 501 students and 129 on the dean's list.

West and Hall Named Seniors of the Year

Ellis West and Marion Hall were named Seniors of the Year at a banquet honoring Mac Pitt. West, from Huntington Tennessee, served as Student Government president and Forensics Council member, among other roles, while Hall, a Business School graduate, presided over Alpha Kappa Psi and Phi Gamma Delta.

Jones Is Elected Orchesis President

Anne Paige Jones was named president of Orchesis for the coming year. Pat Carter was elected vice president and Libby Haddock treasurer, Janice Dowdy will represent the group on the Fine Arts Council. Mrs. Francis Wessels is advisor. A Master Class is planned for February 21, 1959 with other schools participating.

Jungle Love Drama Heads Student Center Screenings

The Heart of no Matter will be shown at the Student Center tonight. Starred by Trevor Howard and Elizabeth Allen, the drama unfolds in a steaming African jungle outpost. Mr. Stone hopes for a second comedy screening during exams.

University of Richmond Names Size Sizemore Editor In Chief

The University of Richmond Board of Publications announces W. Christian Sizemore as editor in chief for 1958 59. Eileen Cordle named Westhampton editor of the LEGIAN, a weekly college newspaper. Cordle and Sizemore are both Pi Delta Epsilon members and hold multiple campus roles.

Paul Schueller Wins Film Society Language Award

Paul Sam Schueller a Richmond College senior has won a University of Richmond Foreign Film Society award for 1958 for outstanding achievement in foreign language study. The Spanish major and German minor is Phi Beta Kappa elected and has led the German Club acted in Puebla de las mujeres and served as ROTC commander among other activities.
