In Williamsburg 3500 fans watched Richmond defeat William and Mary as Creath pitched superbly yielding only five safeties. Teammates hit Gregory and Eloy amid the frantic cheering in a colorful rivalry game on the home diamond of the Indians.
A university reports unprecedented demand for dormitory rooms with three quarters already reserved. Only about ninety rooms remain for new students as applications for admission from freshmen increase, suggesting a large class next session.
The Richmond Collegian reports final appointments to the Westhampton editorial staff. Jane Stuessy, elected editor, announces Dorothy Knibb as assistant editor. Mary Louise McGlothlin Thelma Phlegar are appointed reporters, and Margaret Dorsey debuts as a new reporter.
Westhampton College honors six juniors by election to Pi Alpha honorary society. Inductees are Eugenia Edmondson Madge Pollard Marguerite Roper Harriet Sharon Margaret Lazenby and Louise Ivy. Members are chosen for excellence in scholarship athletics campus life religious work and the arts.
A large crowd attended the Senior Class Senior Minstrel Show on Friday May 15 at Westhampton. The Black and White themed program featured end-men in clown suits and women in male dress, with three acts including the jungle episode and a co-ordinated hockey skit. The audience laughed at parodies songs and jokes, with notable pieces like Would That Be Academic and a faculty jingle drawing attention.
Dr S C Mitchell head of history and political science at the University of Richmond will deliver the baccalaureate address to Virginia Intermont College graduates in Bristol on Sunday May 29 according to an official announcement.
The annual spring elections for baseball track soccer and tennis managers and assistant managers will be held Monday. Polls open 10 AM and close at 3 PM in the Student Shop with Athletic Association and Student Government officials in charge. Baseball and track managers face no opposition while assistant managers contest is lively.
George Reynolds Freedley releases Black Wind a volume of vers libre. The book will appear on campus Monday May 25 and includes poems in Freedley's signature original vivid style. Continued on Page 6.
Dean W. L. Prince of the University of Richmond announces two additions to the summer session faculty. Prof. W. B. Wilkerson will teach zoology and Prof. P. F. Fackenthall will lead botany. Both come from the Medical College of Virginia and are highly recommended. Prof. Paul Merriman, longtime botany instructor, cannot teach this year due to illness.
The University of Richmond Glee Club will hold its annual concert on May 3 in the Red Cross Building at 8 15 PM admission free for those who paid their budget fee announced by H H Dudley president and T Bowene West secretary treasurer. James Womble will direct with Eugene West Julian Martin Chas Y McDaniel and others in the lineup.
Alice Taylor was elected president of the Westhampton Glee Club at a recent meeting. The club plans to extend membership to all college voices and elect officers next year from new members. The group enjoyed a successful year highlighted by the operetta The Egyptian Princess and two social trips to Kilbourne Farm.
Richmond and Westhampton Colleges junior classes held a reception Saturday night hosted by Dr. Boatwright. Despite many track trip absences, the Westhampton class attended in large numbers with guests including Dr. and Mrs. Sidney Negus and Prof. and Mrs. R. C. Astrop.
This afternoon at three o'clock the first events of the South Atlantic Colleges annual track meet will get under way. Eight colleges will send representatives to compete, with notable performers including Enslow Groves Tharpe Goode and Cummings among those to be seen this year.
The Debating and Forensic Council announces next year’s tentative schedule featuring Duke Bucknell Johns Hopkins and Rutgers. Many students will enter preliminaries to fill spots left by graduating debaters as the program expands.
Prof. E. B. Willingham urged fraternities to send representatives to the Blue Ridge Conference held June 16 to 25. W. C. McCorkle will represent Phi Gamma Delta and J. M. Trimmer will represent Kappa Sigma. The Y M C A plans to send at least fifteen men once the budget is complete.
