Circle Honors Jesse W. Dillon At Richmond College Ceremony

Six students and one alumnus of Richmond College received the circle of Omicron Delta Kappa at a tapping in Cannon Memorial Chapel on May 18. Recipients include Stanley Cohen Walter Hoover H George Longaker Howard Moore Lawson Pankey Reid Spencer and Jesse W Dillon an alumnus and Virginia secretary of state.

Press Group To Meet Here in Virginia Journalism Circle

The University hosts the first regular meet of the reorganized Virginia Intercollegiate Press Association with P Delta Epsilon sponsoring. Herman Fleming appointed a committee to arrange the meeting with representatives from Westhampton College and Richmond College. A faculty and student committee meets at 2 30 pm today to fix the date and plan programs and housing. The association, revived after the war, aims for workshops orientation and a banquet luncheon with campus fraternities assisting social activities.

Publication appoints Singleton Fleming editors in chief

Pete Singleton and Herman Fleming are named editors in chief of the Collegian and the Web for the coming year by Dr. Charles H. Wheeler III. Additional Collegian staff include Sarah Bishop William Stigall Irene Barbour. Web staff adds Josephine Hoover James Robinson Frances Orrell.

Westhampton and Richmond Alumni to Honor Dr Mitchell

The Alumnae of Westhampton College join Richmond College Alumni to host Dr Samuel Chiles Mitchell retired Montreal North Carolina former history head. He will give the Alumnae Day address at Keller Hall at 6 00 pm on May 81. The day includes senior barbecue lunch in the grove and Alumni Medal presentation. Reunion classes register at 10 00 am around the athletic field.

TKA Honors New Members at Richmond Convocation

Three University of Richmond students were tapped into Tau Kappa Alpha at a Cannon Memorial Chapel convocation. John Chamberlayne received honors for debate team success and extemporaneous speaking. Dr. George M. Modlin announced new office buildings near the powerhouse to be ready for summer and a Westhampton dormitory to open in September.

Honor fraternity selects forensics award winners

R Baine Harris wins multiple oration contests including the Grand National Tournament and University of Richmond Oratorical Contest earning election to the honor fraternity. Morris Cather is tapped for service to the Philologian Literary Society and two years on Richmond College Forensic Council. Roy B Wyatt presided as members presented the electees.

UN Delegate to Address Class of 47 at Richmond

Horsche Johnson deputy representative to the United Nations will deliver the principal address at the University of Richmond commencement on June 8. President George M. Modlin lauded Johnson as a distinguished foreign service official and noted his designation by President Truman as alternate U.N. representative to the Palestine session.

Songbook Theme Planned For Final Dance Decorations

Jimmy Banks, decorations chairman for University of Richmond Spring Final Dances, announced Millhiser gymnasium would feature a song book theme with large sheet music reproductions behind the band stand and at four corners. Star and moon cutouts would line the walls and ceiling, with strategic lighting to reduce costs and avoid crepe paper decor.
