University Choir Finishes Year With Diverse Finale

The University Choir presents its final concert of the year at Cannon Memorial Chapel at 8:80 tonight. Highlights include Richmond premieres of Hour-Glass Suite by Irving Fine and Songs about the End of Love by Jack McJarrett, with other works by Palestrina, Ravel, Brahms. Soloists include Carole Bradley, Betty Cheyney, Walker Glenn, and others. accompanists Betsy Burton and Donnalee Rowe. Free admission. last campus concert under Jarrett and final 25 senior choir members. Jarrett to begin doctorate studies at Indiana University.

Paper to Give Copies of Bill

The GCovtaran will distribute 300 copies of the civil rights bill from 1 to 3 pm Tuesday in the student center lounge and in the WO reading room. Distribution is first come first served as a non partisan effort for University members to read the bill’s contents. Copies were printed by Richmond Newspapers Inc and obtained from the Virginia Commission on Constitutional Government.

Westhampton College seniors stage King of the Fleas on shipwreck theme

Westhampton College presents senior night May 19 at 8 p.m. in Keller Hall reception room. Organized by Wecky Henderson with help from Cindy Morgan Joyce Sanford and others. The four act program depicts eras at Westhampton ending with ordination and departure. Admission is free.

ROTC drill honors go to Leary and McDanel at Richmond unit

Lt Col Robert L Leary commander of the University ROTC battalion and Dr Ralph C McDanel chair of the division of social sciences received annual MOWW recognition for service and support. Leary led a Boy Scout troop and helped found the Richmond Intercollegiate Outing Club while McDanel earned praise for his long term aid to students and his leadership roles. Three cadets were named top basic cadets from leadership school drill team and band.

Dean Pierce Plans To Take New Post

Susan Shirk reports Westhampton's Dean of Students Miss Virginia Pierce will leave the University of Richmond in June to become Dean of Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley Massachusetts. Pine Manor plans a new campus at Chestnut Hill near Boston with 900 students rising to 1350 after expansion. The college, noted for its exclusivity and cost of about 3400 dollars annually, emphasizes liberal arts under President Frederick C. Ferry Jr with leadership changes planned including new resident counselors and expanded counseling services.

Student Conservatives Form League to Protest Books USA

A Conservative League led by Grant Browning, Lee Selby and Ben Vincent forms on campus to oppose the Books USA program. The group aims to inform peers about authors and books it deems unrepresentative of America and its political system. They seek to halt further contributions until the books are removed or the list expands to include conservative viewpoints.
