President Boatwright announced plans for a permanent wing parallel to the road to the trolley stop. The addition will have its own kitchen, accommodate 100-120 civilian students, and remain separate from naval cadets. Navy cadets move in July 1. repairs to dormitories proceed.
The fifth annual Student Night will be held Sunday evening May 16 with thirty-nine ministerial students leading services at thirty-three Richmond Baptist churches. Assignments were made by the Ministerial Union under officers George L Buting and O William Rhodenhizer spanning Bainbridge to Grove Avenue churches with students from Richmond Dillwyn Covington and Norfolk among others.
Bob Allen and his orchestra will headline the school finals dance at Cafe Rouge New York Monday night May 24 from nine to one. Allen, once with Hal Kemp and later leading his own band, popular for his voice and trumpet solos by Randy Brooks and Paula Kelly, rises in the trade press as a top young bandleader.
Strictly instrumental music will cost interfraternity dance subscribers 2.75 while non subscribers pay 3.60. Decorations will be simple per government wishes. The dance runs one night due to orchestra procurement, announced Nelson Bull, chair of the interfraternity dance committee. He urged timely arrival to enjoy the event.
Richmond College held a wartime election to pick a nine member Honor Council from sixteen candidates. Solon Cousins and nine others, including Dave Greenberg and Stan Lusby, were elected to lead the school next year. Only 180 of 825 eligible voters cast ballots amid abolishment of party politics and debates over nominations.
The student body assembly awarded Westhampton Seals to Ryermond Hardee of Florence South Carolina Rita Muldowney and Billy Jane Crosby both of Richmond and Anne Lilly of Bluefield. Reba Booker presented the seals and received a seat from Althea Johnston. Mary Tuck of Richmond received the first written certificate of honor for a sharp rise in scholarship.
Stanley Lusby of Alexandria was elected president of the Richmond College Student Government. Warren Walthall of Richmond was named chairman of the Honor Council for the next session, with nine members serving on both bodies.
