Publications Board Names New Staffs For Next Year
The Board of Publications announced Collegian and Messenger appointments for next year after a Monday meeting in the Administration Building. Named for Collegian are Westhampton Editor Nancy Grey Lazenby and Westhampton Managing Editor Dorothy Ann Fishberg with Jacque line Barnes as Westhampton Sports Editor. Messenger appoints Julia Willis Editor-in-Chief Jean Saperstein Westhampton Editor and Richard Haskers Richmond College Editor. Web staff not yet chosen. Chester LeRoy Wagstaff said the Web will be ready July 1 and mailed to non Richmond residents. Town and Summer School students will be notified when to pick up the Annual copy.

J. Graham representative to the Forensic Council Lincoln Baxter sergeant at arms. An amendment to empower the president to interrupt discussions hindering business or time limits was passed.

May 16 Banquet to Honor Westhampton Athletes
The Athletic Association of Westhampton plans its annual banquet in the dining room with Everett Hardee presiding. It resumes after a food shortage pause to recognize outstanding athletes across basketball hockey class and varsity teams, along with blazer seal track tennis archery winners and cheerleaders.

Westhampton May Day Festivities Move to Gym
Wet weather failed to dampen Westhampton May Day events as the Greek Theatre was abandoned for the Activities Building gym. At 3 PM booths opened with War Stamps and refreshments, at 4:30 PM the May Queen Anne Garland Green was crowned and serenaded by the Sophomore class. The celebration featured four dance scenes and ended with the Queen’s Ball as families enjoyed a Lantern Parade and supper.

Richmond College Capts Team Clinches Seventh Debate Victory
Richmond College defeated the University of North Carolina in a chapel program debate to close its season with seven wins and three losses. Charles Young and Joel Harnett led the squad, with Harnett set to lead next year as Young graduates. The team’s success included a win over Columbia University and a non decisive match with Carolina, as plans for a broader schedule were discussed.

Dr Harlan Addresses Convocations Today
Dr Harlan a sociology and social ethics professor at the university spoke at the Friday Convocation. He earned A B and M A degrees from George Washington University and a Ph D from the University of Chicago. He postponed the May 6 talk to today to chair a chapel debate between UNC and the University of Richmond.

Summer Session Opens at University of Richmond
The Summer Session begins June 9 and ends August 1 at the University of Richmond. Courses include biology chemistry economics education English French history mathematics physics psychology philosophy and Spanish. Room and board are 75 dollars per semester with Navy occupancy in dorms at Richmond College. Dean Prince urges early registration to avoid crowding.

RIC Summer Work Plans Emerge for Council
The Richmond Inter collegiate Council will continue work over the summer with no final plan yet. a May 18 meeting will decide organization and policy limits. The international affairs sub committee will carry on by public meetings and correspondence. A racial relations forum is set for May 10 at 8 p.m. in the Medical College auditorium with speakers from RPI VaUU and St Philip Hospital. Money for the St Clemenceau Givings plaque funds a bronze replacement after the war.

University of Richmond Commencement Schedule May 26 to May 30
The commencement program begins May 26 with Westhampton events and a Senior Class party. Alumni registration, luncheons, a Navy inspection, and a baseball game occur at Milhiser Field on Saturday. Sunday features Academic Procession and Baccalaureate in the chapel. Monday honors Dr. Bennet Puryear with a Chemistry Building naming and a trustees’ meeting. Dean hosts Westhampton Seniors at supper. Tuesday includes the President’s Reception and the graduation address by Professor Early L. Fox, with degree conferrals and the President’s message in the Greek Theatre. If rain, final events move to the Chapel.

Service Honor Roll Presented by Theta Chi at Richmond
On April 29 1944 Omega chapter Theta Chi Fraternity University of Richmond received a service plaque from the Mothers Club honoring 123 chapter members in the armed services. Captain John P Sanders earned a gold star for death. Captain Lewis T Stoneburner’s star was removed after his missing in action status. The plaque features Theta Chi arms the American flag and Omicron Chapter flag with the War Service Roll inscription and engraved names. Jack Porterfield led the presentation with Roy, a chapter member and Army chaplain, unveiling the plaque.
