May Day festivities captivate Westhampton crowd at university
A historical May Day pageant honoring Yorktown’s sesquicentennial drew hundreds to Westhampton University. Elizabeth Gill as Good Queen Bess wore white satin with a corsage. Margery Leake as Maid of Honor in blue lace. Marjorie Crawford as Pocahontas appeared in a dark, striking costume. The May 5 1931 meeting of College Government in the Red Cross Building heard two announcements and one resolution. Mary Hicks retiring president said this year’s Freshman Class voted to abolish hazing and adopt rules for next year’s freshmen to follow.
