Class Officers For Coming Year Elected Monday

Richmond College elected next year’s class officers across three divisions. Senior Class chose Jack Wright as president. College Government Officers Installed at Westhampton

Wednesday morning in the Chapel the Westhampton College Government Association installed its new officers. Dean Keller opened with remarks on the new system as Mary Hicks handed over to Elizabeth Fugate who spoke to accept the role and credit the students for their cooperative spirit.

Wilde Play Tonight The Importance of Being Earnest at Red Cross

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest will be staged tonight at 8 15 in the Red Cross Building by the University Players. New and some familiar performers headline a production praised for witty lines and refined staging with Victorian costumes.

Hutcheson Wins U S Scholarship to Study Abroad

Harold H. Hutcheson, a University of Richmond sophomore, won one of eight $1,000 American Institute of International Education scholarships for second year students. He will spend his junior year abroad at the University of Edinburgh, leaving in the fall for Europe.

Vote to be taken on budget fee measure

At the Student Government Association weekly meeting set for Monday May 11 the budget fee proposal by Gerhard C Henricksen will be decided. The resolution seeks to collect budget fees next year if the current sum collected proves insufficient.

May Day festivities captivate Westhampton crowd at university

A historical May Day pageant honoring Yorktown’s sesquicentennial drew hundreds to Westhampton University. Elizabeth Gill as Good Queen Bess wore white satin with a corsage. Margery Leake as Maid of Honor in blue lace. Marjorie Crawford as Pocahontas appeared in a dark, striking costume. Varied groups of ladies and lords filled the scene, creating a colorful floral climax in bright May weather.

Math Association of America Meet in Richmond Virginia

Web Officials Urge Groups to Settle Yearbook Debts

The Web 1931 editor warns campus organizations with unpaid accounts that members will not receive a yearbook until debts are cleared. The May 25 distribution date is set, with a list of students owing amounts such as G. M. Belch $125, J. P. Belcher $4, W. H. Berry $4, and L. A. Bos.

Impressive Tap Ceremony At Cannon Memorial Chapel

Five Richmond College juniors are named to Pi Delta Epsilon at a spring ceremony in Cannon Memorial Chapel. Other Richmond members include Edward Nininger Joseph Robinson and John St Clair with Richard W Payne as Pi Delta Epsilon president. Students Vote on Class Cut System

The May 5 1931 meeting of College Government in the Red Cross Building heard two announcements and one resolution. Mary Hicks retiring president said this year’s Freshman Class voted to abolish hazing and adopt rules for next year’s freshmen to follow. Polly Cochran urged support for the unemployed and announced her assignment.

Senior Class Dance a Pleasant May Day Prelude

Westhampton College seniors hosted a successful dance in the dining hall with guests from the Sophomore Class. The event, originally to close the May Day program, preceded the postponed exercises and may establish a lasting May Day tradition for future seniors.

Commencement Dates Set For June At University

The university announces commencement for June 7 8 and 9 with Baccalaureate by Prof W Bersey Davis and commencement address by Prof Manly O Hudson. Reunions for classes 26 21 16 11 01 96 91 86 81 76 and 71 occur on Alumni Day June 8. Honorary degrees D D to Davis and Templeman and LL D to Dr J Shelton Horsley.
