University Players Choose New Head for Year

Lydia Hatfield of Hickory North Carolina, a sophomore at Westhampton College, was unanimously elected president of the Richmond University Players last Monday night. Miss Hatfield, the dramatic coach Miss Emily Brown praised for spirit and energy.

University Players to Publish Four One-Act Plays

Four one act plays will be published by University Players with Leslie L. Jones and W. Roland Galvin coordinating in the Red Cross building. If 100 subscriptions are received, the book should appear by June 1 at a price not over 1.25 dollars. This marks a first for Richmond performers in publishing a set of plays.

White and Herman Debate at Fork Union Institution

White and Harry M Herman, University of Richmond veterans, argued for the United States entering the League of Nations at Fork Union Military Academy last Tuesday night. Herman spoke for the affirmative as the local team had done in its recent Northern contest.

Candidates Sought for Athletic Association Posts

IL candidates for manager and assistant manager of baseball track soccer and tennis are requested to hand in their names to Charles L. Dillon president of the athletic association by 4 o clock next Monday. Elections for the various positions will take place the latter part of this week.

Richmond student to speak at state oratorical contest

Warren Cuthriell will represent the University of Richmond at the State Oratorical Contest in Emory Virginia. He competes against nine Virginia college representatives with the oration titled The Confederate Soldier hosted by Emory and Henry College.

Unified Virginia science meeting at University of Virginia

The fourth annual meeting of the Virginia Academy of Science and the Virginia section of the American Chemical Society will be held today and tomorrow at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. R. J. Loving will deliver the presidential address Friday morning as representatives from Virginia colleges attend the sessions.

Three UR Students Win Dramatic Contest

Three of the five plays in the News Leader contest were written by University of Richmond students. The works are The Dark Crystal by Margaret Knight Btude Printanier by Leslie L. Jones and The Feud by Harry Waldron. The Feud was among four original one acts staged Friday at the Red Cross building. Authors will revise and resubmit by May tenth. the best will be chosen from the five revised entries.

Philologian Society Hikes to Bosher's Dam

The Philologian Literary Society leaves Westhampton College this afternoon at 5 30 for a hike to Bosher's Dam. An able committee headed by B W Carr has arranged a program and refreshments. This hike replaces the regular annual banquet, and a large turnout is expected.

Francis Taylor Wins In Philologian Oratorical Contest

Francis N. Taylor won the annual oratorical contest of the Philologian Literary Society held last Monday night. His speech titled A Tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte earned first place. G A Wilkins and G E Pankey tied for second, with C P Anderson taking third. Professors Hackley Meredith and Jones judged the event.

Ministers Conference Holds Meeting Here

The ministers conference met on the Richmond College campus Monday May 3 in response to Dr Boatwrights invitation. Members endorsed the money drive to build new science laboratories and passed resolutions supporting the campaign.

Five Manuscripts Entered in Contest at Richmond

The University of Richmond submits five manuscripts for Harper's Intercollegiate Literary Contest. Richmond College entries include The Leathened Shadow of John Crum by Leslie L. Jones and The Feud by Harry Wandron. Westhampton College contributes Scissors to Grind by Margaret Knight and The Stream by Margaret Harlan. The remaining entry is Gold Dragoons by Marion Marsh judged by an impartial panel.

Tau Kappa Alpha to Hold Meeting Tomorrow

Tau Kappa Alpha will meet tomorrow at 2 P M in Room B-3 Thomas Hall to discuss initiation and new member candidates. Plans for a year end social function will be considered and a chapel period will soon present membership scrolls.
