The Seniors won the interclass basketball championship with a 33 to 24 victory over the Rats after a prior April 28 meeting in which they also defeated the Juniors and Sophs. The Seniors clinched the title, marking a repeat of last year’s triumph.
Richmond College hosts the Virginia State Intercollegiate Oratorical Association event in its auditorium tonight at 8. Five colleges enter this year’s contest, with speakers including Fitzgeral Flournoy of Washington and Lee and Meyer H. Lowenstein of the University of Virginia.
The annual Student Government election was held in Chapel Hall starting at 4 pm with many students in attendance. Candidates included J B Willingham for president and H A Ford and Frank Bentley for president, R H Bullard and R L Seward for vice president, W E Hatcher for secretary, and J E Tucker and Y O Smith for treasurer.
The completed program for Richmond College commencements signals strong attendance. Finals begin June fourth with the Pan-Hellenic dance and the next day features the annual college picnic on campus open to all students.
The Spiders unleashed heavy hitters against Younger's defense, plating six runs in the second inning. Pollard drove in two with a single and stole second, Bowles, Towill and Jones also scored on errors, with Turlington and Jones adding later two more in the ninth.
The Chi Eta Upsilon Honor Society has been organized at Richmond College to honor students showing exceptional ability across college activities. It aims to unite high achievers and boost their incentive to serve faithfully in all college life facets.
Rho Chi Chapter hosts the Annual Sectional Convention in Richmond with business sessions at the University Club. Hon. Newton J. Baker, Secretary of War and Phi Gamma Delta member, delivers the principal address at Norris pig dinner at Reuger’s Hotel Friday night.
Westhampton celebrated May Day marking the college birthday heritage. The Senior Class ceded May 1 to the college and the Freshman class will now celebrate its birthday on April 1. Continued on Page Seven.
Campus calendar lists events May 7 to May 13 at Richmond College. Highlights include the intercollegiate oratorical contest at 8:15 P M May 7, class baseball championship games May 8, championship football like events May 10 and 12, and a Y M C A meeting May 13. Participants include Richmond College Randolph Macon William and Mary juniors seniors and sophomores.
