Trinity College defeated the University of Richmond in a two hour debate at the Red Cross Building last Tuesday night March 8. The affirmative argued labor shares in management as antidote to Bolshevism, while the negative warned it undermined property.
The committee of five selected seventeen members from Westhampton and Richmond Colleges for a newly formed Writers Club. Nine from Westhampton College include Gladys Shaw Thelma Hill Josephine Talley Theresa Pollak Juliet Woodson Virginia Richardson Louise Wilkinson Virginia Moncur e Peggy Butterfield. From Richmond College were R T Marsh R E Garst R G Mottley W G Keith B A Davenport A B Clarke Harry Riddle and W A McNeill. Openings remain for additional members.
Candidates for the Spider base ball team train in warm southern sun at the stadium field. Coach Dobson assesses players in various positions as they shed stiffness and build shape for the first game against William and Mary on Easter Monday. Training focuses on physical conditioning with plans to teach game strategy in coming days. About fifty names were submitted, with weedings ongoing to select the nine while promising players receive instruction.
The Y M C A hosts a reception at the Red Cross Building Westhampton for the Christian associations. The event, open to the student body, features novel plans and guest of honor status for the Y W C A. Dr F W Boatwright announces Miss Grace Ladrum will join Westhampton College as Associate Professor of English for 1921 22.
Fast 1921 bowed submissively yet appreciatively to a modest Fifteenth Century last Friday night when dramatists of the University of Richmond appeared before the footlights in the play house presenting Oliver Goldsmiths five act comedy She Stoops to Conquer. The production marked this seasons second success for the local actors and actresses and foretells the support to be anticipated at similar affairs. The cast displayed rich costuming surpassing local theater in recent memory with camlet suits cocked hats scarlet cloaks and antique gowns enhancing the period charm.
Last Wednesday at 4 30 in the Red Cross Building the Sophomores edged the Freshmen 107 to 105 in the annual Freshman Sophomore gym contest. The meet featured marching wand and club drills vaults hurdles and jumps with volleyball and captain ball finishing close. The Sophomores led most events with a final 107 to 105 score for class of 1923 over 1924.
