Richmond College Student Government Election Results

John Vaughan won the student government presidency at Richmond College with 478 votes to 251 for Jack Yaffa of the All Campus party. The Student party took seven offices, including four senators, while the All Campus party claimed five. Beth Holland was elected president of Westhampton College Government. Judy Gooke and Charlotte Hines filled vice presidential roles.

Cox and Goard Win Wilson Fellowships

Cox and Goard, Richmond College seniors and Phi Beta Kappa members, win Woodrow Wilson Fellowships. Cox, from Norfolk, majors Spanish and English, plans graduate study at Wisconsin or North Carolina and a Spanish teaching career after Marine Corps travel. Goard, from Chatham, majors French, intends romance languages as a college teacher, with graduate work in French.

Trilling to Visit University of Richmond for Lectures

Lionel Trilling critic and author from Columbia University will spend three days on the University of Richmond campus sponsored by the Heatwright Lecture Foundation He will deliver a public lecture Monday night at Dennis Auditorium on The Anti Heroic Principle in Literature and Morality and hold informal talks with students and faculty in Keller Hall Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons He will meet by appointment with English department students and others interested in literature Dr Edward Peple notes Trilling among a group of young writers who contributed to the literary section of the New York Evening Post His works include Forster The Middle of the Journey The Liberal Imagination and essays in The Nation New Republic Times Book Review Partisan Review and Kenyon Review

Professor Wylie to Speak on French Literature Values

Laurence Wylie of Harvard will discuss French Literature and the Expressions of French Value on Thursday March 15 at 1 30 p m in Keller Hall. He studied in Paris and Indianapolis and earned a Ph D from Brown before teaching at Simmons College and joining Harvard.

Dream Themed Ring Dance At Westhampton

Foreign Film Wozzeck Screens March 14 at Campus

The Berg opera adaptation Wozzeck will be shown March 14 in the physics building at 3 30 and 7 30 p m. The film critiques military brutality as a common soldier’s fate in 1630 Prussia with Wozzeck driven by humiliation poverty and tragedy.

Music Department To Give Concert Sunday Afternoon

The University Music Department presents a chamber music program Sunday at 4 pm in Keller Hall. Performers include Dr. Saul Kay violinist and Medical College of Virginia professor, Robert Harker clarinetist and University professor, and Dr. Timothy Miller pianist and university director of music.

Honors Convocation to Feature Dr. St. John speaker

Dr. Seymour St. John headmaster of the Choate School in Wallingford Connecticut will speak at the annual Honors Convocation next Thursday. He is an Episcopal priest and longtime headmaster with Navy service in World War II and a Yale graduate. Phi Beta Kappa will initiate 27 students and alumni during ceremonies at the Jefferson Hotel with a joint dinner to follow. Omicron Delta Kappa will hold tappings Tuesday night before the event.
