University of Richmond names six for Western debate team

Lloyd Caster heads the selection as four men are chosen to represent UR in a dual debate with William and Mary on April 27. Debaters include J L Honts Haddon Dudley W Lee Smith and J P William with alternates J H Norma and W H Bennett. The debate topic asks Congress to enact uniform marriage and divorce laws.

Junior Jollies to Stage at Red Cross March 23

Work is progressing on the Junior Jollies a campus show praised as better than Hit the Deck Good News or Zeigfeld Follies. A trained cast of attractive performers rehearses diligently with dancing described as superb and singing strong.

Student Constitution 10 Be Discussed in Chapel Today

Final discussion on the revised Student Government Constitution will be heard in Chapel this morning at the regular meeting. A vote may be taken now. For three weeks there has been debate over budget fees, the honor code, and athletic managers. Most students see the need for revision and offer constructive criticism.

Formal Dinner Tonight Honors Debating Team Victors

A formal dinner at the Country Club of Virginia tonight at 6 30 honors the debating team that defeated the University of South Carolina and the University of Florida. Attendees include team members H M Herman Robert W Edwards and W S Norman, plus Dr F W Boatwright Professor MH H Seay Dr Rolvix Harlan Mr B West Tabb Emanuel Emroch president of the Debating and Forensic Council and other officials and debaters from Westhampton and their coaches.

14th Charter Day Celebration of O D K at Pitt

The Omicron Delta Kappa 14th Charter Day ceremony was held last week at the University Club of the University of Pittsburgh. W L Prince, Dean of Richmond College and National President of O D K, attended with four officers. no new charters were granted at the business meeting.

New Professors Named for 1928 U R Summer School

Dr D M Allen of Hampden Sydney College and Dr A T Johnson of Southwestern University Memphis are announced as new summer school professors for the 1928 session. George C Gardner of Kansas will teach Education. Otto Dunhel from Washington U St Louis returns. Cornthwaite McDanel Jones and Warfield teach first-time. Existing faculty include Wilson Seay and Stewart.

Woodrow Wilson Oratorical Contest Planned for April

Richmond College to host an oratorical contest open to all students on the topic In Appreciation of Woodrow Wilson. The Philologian Literary Society sponsors with a prize of one hundred dollars donated by Adon A. Yoder of Chicago. Date to be decided.

Italy Since 1918 to be discussed by relations club

The International Relations Club will discuss "Italy Since 1918" at its regular meeting Tuesday night at 7:30 in the YMCA building. R. W. Carnes H. G. Reynolds and C. R. Stevens will lead the discussion focusing on Italy United States relations since World War I and briefly noting Italy's present system.

The 1928 Web will be distributed on campus before exams and includes new features. Staff promises a brighter year book and urges students who have paid representation but owe budget fees to settle immediately to receive the 28 annual.

Short Story Winners to Be Announced Monday

Winners in the annual Sigma Upsilon short story contest will be announced Monday at Chapel. Prof. H. B. Handy will award medals to the top three contestants and speak on the fraternity's aims. The Messenger April issue will publish the prize stories. Oscar Lundin won first place last year with A Soldier of France.

Declamation Contest Set At College Chapel Next Friday

The annual Declamation Contest among Virginia high and prep schools will be in the College Chapel Friday at 3 00 P M. Sponsored by Tau Kappa Alpha and the University of Richmond. Prizes totaling 35 dollars will be awarded to three winners with 20 dollars to first place and the rest distributed.

Richmond College elects Lloyd H. Caster president

First announcement of election results this morning shows Lloyd H. Caster leading the ticket for president of the Richmond College Student Government Association. R. N. Sanford and E. H. Anderson trailed with substantial vote shares as candidates. Caster, a junior, is on the Student Senate and leads the Glee Club while serving on the Messenger staff. He comes from John Marshall High School.

Tentative cast for Molnar comedy The Swan announced

University of Richmond announces a tentative three act cast for The Swan by Ferenc Molnar. Miss Emily Brown lists leads Beatrice Alexandra and Symphorosa with Albert Hyacinth and Agi as male leads. Production aims for the last week of March at Strand Theatre Richmond.

University of Richmond Debaters Win in Southern Tour

University of Richmond debaters defeated Southern colleges on tour. Robert W. Edwards Harry M. Herman and W. S. Norman returned Sunday after a highly successful trip defending the negative on the resolution that the United States should cease protecting capital invested in foreign countries except after formal declaration of war, following a March 1 debate at Chicora College in Columbia before a large audience.
