ODK Plans April 27 Campus Carnival for Fund Raising

Omicron Delta Kappa will sponsor a campus carnival on April 27 to raise funds for the Student Activities Center building. No location or format yet. campus groups urged to cancel other engagements to maximize proceeds. Also on April 27 a William and Mary game and VMI track meet are set, with last year’s total of 353 dollars awarded to the building fund.

Fourth University of Richmond Messenger due March 11

The 1989 40 issue will feature eight articles and poems with a history piece "1840 1940" by Walter F E Bass. The cover shows Cannon Memorial Chapel. A short story contest runs to March 15 with a $5 prize. two more Messenger issues follow in April and June.

Interfraternity Council Examines Hiring Union Orchestras

Herman P. Thomas heads a committee including T. Stanford Tutwiler Henry W. Black and David D. Abeloff to study employing orchestras for Interfraternity Council events and related bodies. Last spring non union bands threatened dances but union bands were agreed for fraternities. now unions seek coverage of all campus groups.

Mortar Board Tapping Set At Cannon Chapel

Mildred James announces tapping of Mortar Board on Monday at 7 30 p m in Cannon Memorial Chapel. All juniors should wear white. The university and faculty are invited. The Westhampton honor society honors leadership scholarship and service with a requirement of three points above the college average.

Debating Tour by Westhampton Team

Representing Westhampton College Debate Council, Margaret Brittingham and Kitty Crawford depart for a four day tour to meet three universities on Pi Kappa Delta topic. They defend isolation in a decision debate at Rhode Island State University Kingston tonight after meeting American University and Bucknell University. Bucknell debate was non-decision. Both are juniors with three years of experience.

Science Clubs Host Joint Open House Exhibition

University of Richmond science departments present a joint open house on March 15 at 7 30 P M featuring Chemistry and Biology exhibits from 120 participants. Visitors will see a perpetual motion machine a mosquito display Frasch process Wasserman test and forestry demonstrations with involvement from DuPont State Department and local health officials.

Richmond College considers rat system plan at chapel

Planning Commission chair Jack Noffsinger explained nine proposals for a campus rat system at Richmond College. He noted two questions for students: whether to adopt the system and whether to accept the commission's recommendations. A freshman must wear a visible insignia for a week for violations, while upperclassmen may be reported for hazing. Students will vote on the plan at the next chapel.

Honor Council Bars Ponies in Language Class

Richmond College Honor Council member Carl R. Thomas told a chapel audience that foreign language books with interlinear translations, known as ponies, violate the honor code and will be punishable. He said the practice had grown large and must end except for use in personal study and tests with the student’s own work.
